I want to be a believer and drink in all the koolaid about what we might do with the war chest - i really, really do....but sometimes it is difficult.

Going from Mata and Witsel to Carvalho and Sigurdsson (heck even Arnautovic) - no problem. I could have been excited about any and all of them.

But to go to from the players above to links to Brady, Kone and Gueye....that is flat depressing....

Still - "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." So maybe, just maybe this is just a test and better things will come around tomorrow.

....or maybe we will give McGeady a contract extension. At this rate who knows......

If you stand still in this league then you end up going backwards. We still have the same team as three years ago, minus a first choice goalkeeper.
Wow. That's a really good point! Our first choice team is literally the same bar the keeper and stones for distin

Too many people living in dreamland. Yes we were linked with Witsel, Mata ect. because people love listing as many attractive attacking midfielders as possible because these names sound nicer than Gueye ect. Let's concentrate on what needs addressing first, defensively and organisationally we were awful last year and Gueyes stats in a very very poor Villa side shows he's good in areas that we struggled with last season. Walsh known as what he is doing and will not judge until everybody has had a fair chance. The more stylish signings will come.

Because this guy isn't good enough for a squad player even if we want to compete top end. It seems we're happy for only minor improvement.
As I remember people weren't too high on Funes Mori when we signed him, and now his value has never been higher. Perhaps we should give these players a chance to fit into a system that better fits their game and surrounds them by better players on the pitch. I mean if we had signed Kante at the beginning of last year for 8 mil. I can't imagine what would have been said here.

Judge the signings in context at the end of the window and not on the fee paid / selling club.

If Gueye signs and does well, Koeman and Walsh will be hailed as geniuses. £7.2m is practically free in today's market, very little risk here.

Koeman and Walsh will be identifying the targets - and I will trust their judgement. If Gueye turns out to be as bad as the other one we had, then it's bad judgement. Who knows how it will work out?
