"Ronald Koeman has hailed new signing Maarten Stekelenburg as the perfect blend of quality and experience.

The Everton boss said that adding extra competition for the Number one shirt was his first priority upon arrival at Goodison, and believes the 33-year-old still has his best years ahead".
You obviously read something different into the quote.
I hope you are right. He has looked good so far.

Koeman has made clear he wants to balance the squad both by having enough depth in each position but also by adding in qualities we lack.

Williams was bought for leadership.

Gueye was bought for pressing/tenacity.

Bolasie brings pace/power.

Sissoko would add size, pace and a goal threat to a midfield that lacks those qualities. You could see us doing something late here as we are one of the few clubs who can pay what the barcodes want. He isn't worth it but I thought Ron hinted yesterday that we may choose to over-pay at the deadline if that is what it takes.

In Barry we have an intelligent deep play-maker but we obviously could use his successor. Players like Carvalho and Bazoer could develop into that role but we may not be able to address that this window.

Carvalho is already better in that position than Barry. Bazoer would need to develop however he's very promising and Barry still has a good year left.

Carvalho and Sissoko have been the partnership I have wanted for a while now.

He was boss in the euros thundering down the pitch. With him, Williams, Bolasie and rom in the team we would have some serious strength in the squad which was definitely lacking last season

Great post

It must be said about Sissoko: OF COURSE the widely reported asking price of close to £30m is nuts. But for those who've seen the McCarthy request to leave piece in the Mail today, the idea that he's worth £20m seems equally absurd. Welcome to inflation. The question that is most pertinent to me is simple: What skills could Sissoko add that we don't have in midfield?

Power, pace, playmaking, a goal threat sure. And he's inconsistent. And he's frustrating. Similar critiques we've heard about Bolasie. But my ultimate contention is that if we believe we've got an elite manager, we must believe that he can foster more consistency out of talented players who come from situations where they're surrounded by inferior talent and management.

Considering last season's squad lacked athleticism and pace in Martinez's usual starting XI, the addition of Sissoko would be yet another development that speaks to the transformation of this side on the field by Koeman. Between a system that requires more pressing, increased fitness and the additions of Gueye and Bolasie, this team already feels stronger, faster, and more athletic. So I wouldn't turn my nose up at adding another big, strong, athletic piece to that mix. He's got flaws that need addressing, but I believe Koeman can find the upside of players like him.

Looks like Bazoer may be off after all - from 6 hours ago.

"Ajax gets last minute may still lose a star player"

"Riechedly Bazoer is in the spotlight. The Telegraph suggests the early morning about how and why regarding Ziyech: ". The oorwassing Rostov however, gave new insights But the main reason that the plea from the fans Ziyech is answered, is the fact that there are now drawn three midfielders by Dutch and foreign clubs for Riechedley Bazoer is concrete German and Italian interest and also for Daley Sinkgraven and Lasse Schöne's last minute interest."

I've been looking at the transfers between European clubs. They aren't much different than here.

Does anyone really think a 28 year old Higuain is worth £75.3m?

It's just an excuse used by clubs not willing to pay the going rate.

Of course he is, he guarantees the league for them.
