Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Just seen Martins Indi get interviewed in his car, fairly sure he was off his tits. He also groped the blokes leg who was driving for an uncomfortable amount of time.

This moment will certainly go down as the highlight of deadline day. Not quite "Everton fan lobbing a dildo in a correspondent's ear" but still quality.

Lukaku will get injured with Belgium, Martinez and Jones will pop his hamstrings and then we'll be knackered cos all we've done is sign centre mids.

Well in Walshy lad.

There is no way Kone can get to Liverpool from Sunderland, let alone take a medical in just over an hour. It would have to go down as a loan at first wouldnt it?

There's a little form to fill in that you need to hand over before 11, showed it on SS earlier as if it was the manga Carta, actual deal finalization can happen as late as 1am.

I'll tell you what's not right and here's the blunt reality. Despite having a brilliant business man as a new major shareholder, despite having a globally recognised manager, despite having "the most influential man in the PL" in our DoF, the cold, hard facts are that we are not as attractive a club as we the fans think we are - yet.

After 25 years of stagnation and relative deterioration we've a huge amount of catch up to do. Despite the promises of our new management team, and the prospects for our future, until we achieve things on the pitch and off it we won't attract the very highest level of players because in footballing terms (which ultimately is what players are interested in) we're also rans - a great club with a great history, but not currently at the highest levels of the game.

We thought, I thought, we could sell a good enough pitch to make some of the very best want to come to us, be part of the project, but the sad truth is that a professional footballer's career is short, and they will only deal in the now, not the future.

I've no doubt we'll make it back to the highest levels, but I'm a fan and can wait, a professional footballer has options and can have jam today, not just tomorrow.

Good post.

I think the vast majority of people accept that you passed on what you were told in good faith, but partly because you wanted to believe there were no limits, you lost sight of reality a bit.

No offence, but because of your background and undoubted success in business, you were also more open to the idea that money talks, but maybe forgot that :-

  1. Money isn't the be all and end all, and footballers aren't totally driven by cash. Ten years ago that might have been different, but now throwing money at football clubs isn't a nigh on guarantee of success and
  2. Most of our rivals have similar amounts to spend so the choice for players is much more than it was just a few years ago
Moshiri's Everton on the field plan was never going to happen overnight and Koeman's three year contract probably reflects the short to medium term plan for that.

The off field plan is likely to be a five year plus one as well, so some patience, and realism is required all round.
