Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

No doubt that there's a lot of truth in that article, but I think Ratcliffe is overly harsh with the 'Everton have no great players'.

We have a lot of problems, but we still have 2 great players in Richarlison and Digne I would say.

To be honest I've never seen Ratcliffe have a good word to say about the club whenever hes on either commentary or writing an article.

He comes across as an ex pro who is very bitter that he finished his career just before the mega money came in and missed out.

I know there's not a lot of positive to say about the club at the moment, but it does wind me up that every Liverpool article you read is some ex player blowing smoke up their arse without a bad word to say, whereas even an ex Everton legend can't wait to put the boot into the club when it comes to us.

digne and richy are without doubt our best players but I would agree with KR that we don’t have any great ones. Richy has quality in the box but outside his crossing is bad, his passing and final ball are very bad and his decision making is not good at all. Obviously he is young butfor those reasons he’s not“ great” in my book. Digne has quality but gets beaten easily by any winger with pace and doesn’t produce as much as baines going forward and baines wasn’t considered a “ great” player by anyone outside our fan base ( I love baines BTW). He’s also had a go at 3 top clubs and never cemented a place so again not not “ great” but is a good prem LB.

Now that ake has been confirmed to city, stones will definitely be off, reckon we should go for him? Would youse have him back?

Would definitely have him back me if the price was fair. Maybe even a loan with an option to buy to see if he can stay fit etc

No thanks.

Going to get slated for this but here is my current thinking for the backline, I come to this conclusion on the premise that the rebuild is 3 or 4 transfer windows of work (yes we have heard that before starting 10 transfer windows ago I know) and that we have a budget to work within for incomings that isn’t Man City scale. Keep all the current RB/CB/LBs including JJK and bring in Ivanovic for a season and/or club option for a 2nd. I was dead against bring him coming in but seeing my first couple of targets don’t look like happening and the market prices Ake at 41mil then I want to see the money go to the CM reinforcements we desperately need. Good CM will relive the pressure on our defence and leave them less exposed. Ivanovic can play RB or CB and provides us some leadership we are lacking; he and Coleman carnt play game in game out at least not at RB and JJK isn’t costing us much. This gives the up and coming CBs time to develop and possibly becoming the 4th choice CB in 12-24 months. If offers come in for Keane or Mina that meet our valuation, then fine sell and replace. Still leaves us needing a backup LB of course. Remove above if we can get Magalhães. Slate away.

Yeah think it all depends on the definition of 'great' doesnt it.

I mean if youre gonna use it in the sense of 'Everton Greats', then neither Richie nor Digne are there yet.

However if you're just using it as an adjective, i would definitely say theyre both great players.

Italian outlets say Magalhães is either going to Everton or Napoli.

French outlets say Magalhães is either going to Arsenal or United.

I'm curious as to how Italians have better inside info on a Brazilian playing for a French team - unless his agency has links to Italy

Or they could just be giving their Italian readers something to read

I’m assuming KR is using great as it should be used. I mean he’s seen southall and others and was captain of our greatest side , so I’m assuming he means great when he says “ great” but I do think we over rated richy and digne ... richy is good and has a lot of potential but has a lot of work to do. People on here think he’s destined for Barca and real but I’m not so sure . Barca may very well sigh him one day just for the fact he’s Brazilian , but like Coutinho ... but I do t think he will ever be the level of their past players.

Big wage, crap defender.

Getting these two in soon would give us all a lift I think.

I'm eager to see this Allan consistently. I've seen bits in highlights and then the player reels on YouTube (disclaimer included) and he looks an absolute animal.

Yep, it would be a massive lift getting the spine of the team strengthened before pre-season.

We would be a right midfielder, sorting what is happening at right back and a backup left back away from a functioning squad that can have a real go.

within the boundaries of our own team right now, they’re great. within the PL they’re pretty/very good. they’re not irreplaceable.

IMO the term great should be synonymous with the word ‘irreplaceable quality’.

neville southall, Dixie dean, holy trinity... greats. There are more, these are the ones that came to mind.
