Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Status
Not open for further replies.
City - a prospect
Liverpool- a reserve left back
Soton- young prospect
Chelsea- 2 mains before the window.

Yep lots of activity

All in all I accept that - in the pure sense Ie. for a fee - there hasn’t been that many transfers but there has been activity. I’m sure things will crank into life but it may not be as obscene as resent years.

It may just be that clubs pre covid will be more focused on retaining players (assets) in order to realise pre lockdown value. The only pressure on clubs wishing to retain a player will be contract length, this may result in clubs wishing to cash in to realise values and also said clubs need to do business themselves to improve squads and replace departing players.

If you think about wastage, thats players we could sell or give away and we wouldn't miss :

Pennington, Connolly, Baingime, Bolaise, Bowler, Besic, Tosun, Ramirez, reckons there's about 12m.

With the sales already made, around about 18m that means 30m saved, I mean clearly some of those names above are unsellable.

Then there's the high earners Bernie, Walcott, Iceland reckon there's another 19m there, but the problem is those 3 would need replacing, clearly we could replace them with players on cheaper wages, but other than Bernie I doubt you get enough to buy the replacements.

So its doable, the problem is that if you offer "small" wages every club in the league can out bid you.

Sadly the only thing we currently have going for us is that we pay good wages and even then we are struggling to convince people to join cos the "bigger clubs" can dwarf anything we offer, if we start cutting wages then the "smaller clubs" will then start doing it as well.

But to go back to wastage, it doesn't really matter if we pay players 100k+, as long as they don't perform like a 5k a week player.

You can get away with low wages and fighting of competition for players if you pay a big initial fee.

Richarlison, Kean and Iwobi all came in on low wages and I think it’s a deliberate, pay a big fee but low wage approach by us to attract players not quite top drawer but with the potential to make that next step.

Better scouting and more realistic targets would iliminate bigger clubs trumping us for players

Lampard may feel he can turn Pickford around and may believe that with a decent defence in front of him he could become the goalkeeper we all hoped.
He's not got the mentality for it. Can't see Lampard or Chelsea fans putting up with all these mistakes, to swap Kepa for Pickford is basically a like for like, pointless.
