Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Good point about the current market. there will probably be a lot less money in football this summer for transfers/wages. You’re almost certainly right there.

I think we’ll see Besic’s wages covered though at least. He's decent and won’t be on the 80k a week (4mil a year) that Bolasie and Sandro are rumored to be on.

As I said though I think Bolasie and Sandro will get a loan move with some of their wages covered. Probably 500k-1mil wages and 500k- 1mil loan fee. Sure, that isn’t great but it’s better than nothing. Plus it keeps players away from the club who aren’t going to see game time for Everton and might cause a negative atmosphere.

I think both will be keen to go somewhere just to actually play football. They need to play some games to convince their next clubs (if they get one) they are worth giving a contract to. Not sure how successful they will be in that but it’s probably the best plan.

The main point is that Brands has been buying and helping to develop players that we will able to sell more easily in future if we have to.

it’s moving in the right direction. It’s just going to take a while...
VB.
I would guess that our ambition has changed a little since the arrival of CA.
I doubt that we would have been able to tempt him to come to Goodison with the promise of being slowly able to build a team.
I don't think he was promised an open cheque book but I do think that under Marco Silva the policy had sensibly shifted to developing young players to become better and to increase their worth.
I think we will see that policy continue but I expect that the manager has also been promised that he can sign some players that are now at their peak rather than having a resale value in the future.
I think CA will want to build a strong team sooner rather than later.

How the upheavel brought about by the virus will affect that policy will be interesting to see.

It would be nice if we could build a competitive team quickly, but I think that commitment to a long term plan is more sensible no matter who that manager is.

I agree
Ancelotti hasn’t come here just to coach/manage young players. And see where we are in 4yrs.

He will have been promised some of his players I reckon, though some fans on Twitter still think he will have no say in transfers, which I don’t believe

I wouldn't say he has no say, but to me the right thing for the club to do is let the DOF run the transfers no matter who the manager happens to be. Sir Alex Ferguson could decide to come manage us tomorrow and I'd still want Brands running the transfers. It's the only way that the DOF system will ever work.

Finding a keeper to improve on Pickford should be easy. Sheffield United and Palace both have better keepers. They're all over the place because Pickford has been that bad.
Sheffield Utd do not have a better keeper.
They have a good keeper on loan from Utd.
Sheffield have had a great season but let's see them repeat that and let's see how their keeper does in a bad run.

Am I wrong in thinking that Henderson made a horrendous mistake to allow Liverpool to steal a late win at Sheffield ?

I just think saying a guy who directly contributed to about 20 goals in a league season contributed nothing is incredibly naive about what is important in football. Not every player in a team can do nothing outside of the final third like Gylfi, but you also can't get by without players who get the job done in that area and last season we had Gylfi and Richarlison who helped in the regard. I find it hard to see us finishing in the same spot without him unless DCL was going to start scoring more and it was Sigurdsson holding him back. I don't think that's the case.

But obviously we can and should be looking to do better especially considering as I said I don' think he's ever really been a midfielder. Playing him there was always going to end in a disastrous performance and Chelsea was that.

he’s utter wank

Yes that’s fine, but once Ancelotti came available, that changed. And if we slightly deviate from that blueprint for a few years, then so be it.

Moshiri is paying him 10mil a year. And god knows how much to the rest of his team. I don’t think he will want to wait the length of his contract, for a young team to come to fruition.

I think he will ask for a specific type of player + no doubt give names e.g Allan at Napoli.

Brands then speaks with all his scouts and then comes up with a list and he and carlo will go through each one.

May be that Brands delivers on a better name...could be Ancelottis target is at the top.

Who knows really?

But Deulofeu was playing wide. Lukaku would undoubtedly like a midfielder who could play balls through the middle for him to run onto, something we never really gave him. I'm not saying we never gave him chances, i'm saying I don't believe we ever actually set up in a way which you would say was going to get the best out of him.

Siggurdssson and lulaku was the perfect combination we needed. But sadly they were never here at the same time.

Which players do you think Ancelotti would go for who would be ready made that have been linked?

I can only think of Allan.

I kind of feel like the options are wait or fail. I've just watched us spin our wheels trying to come up with a magic window that solves everything instantly for too long now.

And we aren't the only club trying that. Spurs did for years and only found success when they found patience, same with the RS. Now United and Arsenal are doing the same thing and not succeeding.
