Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

I just checked and I found the opening date for the transfer window being 26th July. Is that correct? If people go out of contract on the 1st July, it seems harsh especially for lower league players who might have financial considerations to not allow them to transfer for 3-4 weeks.

Out of contract players can sign and be paid by a new team from today just can't be registered in squads to play any games.

The plan would clearly have been for Dowell to go on loan again, and ultimately not be retained. I am something of an optimist when it comes to young players, and in truth Dowell has done very little to suggest he will make it here. His form has been patchy post Nottingham Forest.

Maybe though, at 22, with a summer to get his head down and injuries behind him, and being a lot bigger and stronger than say 2-3 years ago when he first broke onto the scene it may be the bit of fortune he needs. It doesn't look as if we will be making a huge quantity of signings, so he may get a chance to catch the eye?

...and he knows he hasn’t got the security of a lengthy and expensive contract.

FFP wise yes we will have taken a hit but USM has profited massively from the virus situation.

Ancelotti has close to admitted were looking around for a centre back and Gabriel is at minimum on the list.

I think we need a left back anyway with Baines not able to play several games in a row so its a huge risk if Digne gets injured.

Id say left mid Bernard/Gordon and right mid Walcott/Iwobi are the current options and we'll probably look to move on Walcott and Bernard if we can.

Centre mid need 2 new starters and another starter at right back.

Brands needs to hurry up and clear out the wage bill for FFP compliance.
But, USM cannot just sign those players for us, even if they were prepared to throw the kind of money at the club which could change our fortunes in the same way that happened at Chelsea and then City.

We know Usmanov has pumped money into Everton but not the kind of game changing investment that is needed … he couldn't even if he wanted to because of FFP..... UNFORTUNATELY.

Yes, thats why i wrote about FFP in the first sentence of my reply.

Its clear that we have to shift out wages to comply with FFP and be able to make signings, which i also mentioned.

Lets hope Brands can do it.

I wonder if there may be some sort of "forgiveness" for clubs that go in to administration due to the virus? They could treat them like they did when Liverpool went in to administration and just ignore it.

Doesn't seem like it, 12 point deduction for Wigan, in all likelihood relegated now

It's a long shot, but sometimes players arent physically ready at 19. He looks a lot bigger and stronger when I see him now, and would be well suited to probably playing wider and tucking in in this system. Scored a good goal and played really well the other night too by all accounts.

...well, we need a left footed RW and he played that role very effectively at youth level. I like the lad lots and thought he should’ve been kept when Koeman first came and we ended up with Lennon playing in front of Kenny.

Yes no disagreement there for me. I said the other day Gordon is a much more natural athlete and travels with the ball more quickly than Dowell. Dowell though is probably going to be more rugged and maybe better able to be "trusted".

I mean it's a long shot in truth, but theres a small potential window for Dowell. The reality is Ancelotti wont know whi he is currently, but maybe he can catch the eye a bit in pre season next year whenever that is.
