....I know where you’re coming from, Jeff, but a club of our size & profile needs regular European football. Let’s not forget, Arsenal have a great chance of reaching this years final, so given a bit of improvement it’s a competition we should try and win.

I’m not torn. I hate the whole concept of the Europa League. Along with the League Cup it holds no interest until the semis. It distracts from the main business, forces the team back early from summer break with a poor pre-season preparation, and means most of our league matches are played on Sundays.

....but we never got the latter stages & I don’t know if any of those youngsters went on to have a career at Everton.

If we qualify, we should try and win it. Standards in Europe aren’t great at the moment, we shouldn’t be afraid of being competitive. I have no issue playing youngsters but only if they are pushing to be included. No point in giving them a game for the sake of it.
