Think this will be our biggest test so far this season and will give us a good idea of how far we’ve improved.

I think Palace was a bigger test personally. Tomorrow will be a tough game if we allow it to be. If we get an early goal in the first 20-25 mins I’d expect us to push on and win comfortably

This is the bigger test purely for the players that are missing. No Allan or Gomes, possibly no Richy too.

The Full Graham Potter P/C from Brighton

What is the mood like after back-to-back defeats

As I said last week I think the job is to try and be consistent whether you win or lose. Obviously directly after the game you are disappointed if you don't win that is natural. But quickly as you can you want to focus on the next game and not be on that rollercoaster of emotion that clearly football is.
The boys are fine, they are looking forward to the game. They are disappointed with last night but looking forward to the game at the weekend. They trained well today. They have always been good in terms of their perspective so the challenge is now to get ready for Saturday.

Lingering disappointment after Manchester United Premier League defeat
No. I would say the opposite. What we chose to do was focus on the good things in the game. And also to be aware of the things we can do better. So the result is what it is. Certainly after the game we were sore. But our job, and quickly, is to analyse the performance correctly and try to reproduce that the next match.

Sign of how the club is evolving due to the way Brighton took the game to Manchester United
I think you are right. I think it was the first time we have played Manchester United in my time here that we felt like it was a game of football in terms of two teams giving as good as they got. Both times last year I thought they were considerably better than us and we were well beaten and we had a lot to do.
So in that respect we have taken steps, not just in the Manchester United game but in all our performances so far this season. The disappointing aspect from our point of view is that we felt we could have a couple of extra points. But at the same time that is an indication of where our work is and what we need to do improve.

Latest on injuries and suspensions
There were no bumps, bruises or knocks to report from last night. So apart from the normal stuff, for Davy Propper Saturday might come too soon for him but we are hopeful for him the other side of the international break.

What do you make of Everton's start of six straight wins
They have been really, really impressive. They have invested again in this transfer window with a very, very experienced and high quality manager. I think he has done a really, really good job since coming in. He has stamped his authority on this team further with this transfer window and they have got some really good players, with a good team and good balance. So we are expecting a really tough match as you can imagine.

You described Carlo Ancelotti as a legend of football last season? Still believe that
I think when you get to the status he has I think it will always be that way in terms of what he achieved. He has had a fantastic career and I think he is doing a fantastic job at Everton. He has looked at the squad, looked at what he needs to do, has made adjustments, improved them and he is someone I look up to a lot and respect a lot because of the career he has had and the job he is doing currently.

How necessary is it to add to your squad before the transfer window shuts on October 5
I am happy with the group, I am happy with the competition we have internally. I am happy with the improvement we have shown. We have made some good additions in terms of Adam Lallana, in terms of Joel Veltman, in terms of Ben White returning. We did those quite early and we have just been focusing since then on trying to improve.
And that is what we have done in terms of performances. So as I repeat, that is always the focus for me. Focus on the guys that are here and try to develop the team.

Any areas you are short in at the moment
No. I think we have good competition across all the areas. And we have got players pushing for players. We have got a healthy team spirit, we've got good players on the bench, good players not even making the bench so they are all able to play. So no I am happy with what we have.

Does that include the forward areas
I would argue there is Leo [Trossard] there is Ali [Jahanbakhsh], there are other players that can play in those advanced positions. Alexis Mac Allister can play. Sometimes you have to put faith in the guys you have and give them the game time they need to take their games to the next level. You can only pick
11 players and we have got around 24/25 at the moment, so you do the maths.

As a club has it been difficult to work with recruitment during the coronavirus pandemic
It wasn't so long back that we were talking about football maybe resetting in the middle of the pandemic and that seems to have gone out of the window. And now everyone is asking, 'Who do you want to sign?'
It is just the way the narrative switches. We have always tried to be responsible to the club, to the short, medium, and long-term of the club. We have done some good business in the last couple of windows to add different players to the group and sometimes you have to let them settle, let them perform, and let them grow and take their game to the next level.

Unfortunately, that is not that interesting when you have got transfer window shows on and things like that, people don't want to hear about this boring stuff like helping people improve. They want to hear about who you are going to sign and the external solution, 15 minutes of fame, Britain's Got Talent, that type of stuff.
We want the easy fix, don't we? We don't want to hear about that other stuff. So like you say there are only a few days left [of the transfer window] and maybe we can get back to talking about coaching and developing players, that would be fun, wouldn't it?

Reports of Tariq Lamptey being linked with Bayern Munich:
Firstly I am not aware of any interest or rumours. Again it is another joyous part of the transfer window because all of a sudden these stories come out of anywhere and they become the 'truth' and you have to answer questions about these false stories.
I think the thing with Tariq [Lamptey] is that he has had a fantastic development at Chelsea because they are his club that spent a lot of time with him and got him to this point and Tariq has taken the decision to come to us, to try to further his career and that takes huge courage and he has done that.

The performances that you see are down to him. It is his attributes, his quality, his personality. He has not been with us long but he has made a real impact in terms of how he is around the place. Everyone loves him, he is a great kid and he has a bright future. The short-term, medium-term, long-term future is hopefully with us.

There was a great deal of expectation with Alexis Mac Allister. What have you made of his contribution
All the players that are not involved [in Premier League] games are disappointed. On the one hand you are asking about players we sign and then there are players who are disappointed they can't make the squad. It is that balance between finding the right ones and allowing the ones that you have got to grow and develop. I think Alexis has maybe not started as well as he would like this season, which is reflected in why he hasn't been selected in the squads but that can happen.
Certainly in a young player it is not so easy to continually play well but we are delighted with his attitude, delighted with his work. But it's the Premier League and you have competition in your squad but he will be back for sure.

What do you make of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's start to the season and his progression?
Firstly, congratulations to him for that, it is well deserved. I think he has taken his game onto another level. There was always quality there but I think he has taken that step forward. Obviously goals and confidence help but he is a striker that has got everything. He can run in behind, he offers something to go into and can score. So he deserves his call-up and hopefully he is celebrating a lot and doesn't play so well on Saturday.

This is the bigger test purely for the players that are missing. No Allan or Gomes, possibly no Richy too.

Richy out would be a blow, if he plays I think we have too much for them. Yeah they’re playing well but they’ve just shipped 3 goals to United twice, 3 goals to Chelsea the other week. Leaky at the back and we’re in sensational attacking form.

Though its early days and Im too old to count my chickens, teams playing us now face the novelty of a winning Everton team playing like a strong unit, playing football with verve and desire, scoring at will and possessing class, game-changing talent. The more we win, that momentum will grow. Teams have feared the effect of a packed out "Old Lady" rocking rather than the team in these barren years. What a new dawn for us once weve kicked the guts out of Co-vid....when they combine.

Allan missing will make this an interesting view of our squad depth. If we slip up it'll give a much clearer picture of the season to come.

He's come off the back of a horrendous injury and we've played many games in quick succession, along with those teams kicking us down.

Mad shout that

Misses too many games pre-injury, just little niggly 1/2 games then back in, it is annoying. In a strange way this might be a good thing for us if Delph plays like he did on Wednesday we won’t miss him.
