Everton v Espanyol

To be fair, RK did change five players in a matter of minutes, presumably to give them a run out rather than going all out to win the game.
It was only a friendly game people!!!! I'm not worried about Spurs next week, nor any other team for that matter. I think we will get better and better as the season progresses.

Everton did play very badly, but Espanyol are not a bad team themselves and are unbeaten in pre-season playing very nice football. However, they are a week behind in their preparations as La Liga starts a week later.

Fair enough. Having worked in Valencia, which shares a very similar flag and language, my experience was that they really saw Barca/Catalan nationalists as having a superior attitude to the rest of Spain.

Surprised but interested to hear that there are Espanyol fans who support total Catalan independence. I have never met one but I live and learn every day!! In Alicante at the moment - the far south of Valencia Communitat. Very proud of language and identity but see the idea of Catalan independence as not viable.

I tend to agree unless they go something like Liechtenstein. As for Barca no warmth towards them. Seen as arrogant and bullying- mind you they feel the same about Madrid!

I am a member of Espanyol Supporters Club England (which is why I've been praising them recently). The majority of fans in our group are pro-Independence. Times are changing. Espanyol shouldn't be associated with Franco's fascism any more, it is just an outdated stereotype, as is the anti-Independence one. Like most of Catalonia, it is pretty much a 50-50 split.

That Espanyol top is a horrible design. How could you decide that was the best choice?

It is the cross of St George design. He is the patron saint of Catalonia, hence the "English" cross on the FC Barca badge. All of the Espanyol fans love the new away shirt. It is non-political too.

Snods with a boss shout there.

Inchy played for espanyol. Forgot that.

I know about the saint and all that as I live here, but seeing it yesterday a connection to the cross certainly didnt spring to mind! Just that it was garish and horrible looking.

Seems crap away tops are popular around these parts!

No, mate, I am not trying to be anybody other than myself. Sorry to disappoint you. You're right in that this is a pre-season friendly, so well done for that. On the other hand, it's the last chance for our players to be putting in a shift and perhaps ensuring its their name in the starting XI next Saturday and not one of the players currently sat on the bench. We've had plenty of time now, yet the performance - as it was against United and over in Germany too - is once again horrible. Now I don't want any name calling or insults, I am just of the opinion that it's been an awful summer and we're in no way prepared and ready to go into the new season with a spring in our step. You continue believing we'll spend 100m net, I'll continue to believe we'll lose Stones and end up spending less than 10m net. If you're right, at the end of the transfer window, I'd like you to quote this post, and I will very, very happily apologise for the negative attitude and immediately change my mentality - as the actions by the club in putting their hands in their pocket will call for it and it'll be all good. Nothing wrong with that now, is there?
Was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but bloody hell....after this post I'm convinced you're a koppite.
