I always say we should play our under 12s in cups.

The League is our bread and butter, its where the money is, its where the glory is.

But.

It looks like Carlo really wants to win a cup and I wouldn't say no myself.

Its gonna be a tough season regardless, we seem to be getting 3 injuries a week at current rates, but Everton won a game, that's all that matters, for now.

Sunday is Sunday.

I would love to see us win something more than anyone but the reality is outside of 2-3 sides the chances of doing so are very slim especially if our first team is decimated by injuries.

Teams like City and Utd can replace 6 on the night and still have top quality players available which ultimately is the difference (see the 09 final).

Liverpool are in freefall and Leicester could very well bottle it again like last season - we 100% should be focusing on the league this season.

Long term cups should be a priority but only when we actually have the quality of squad to be able handle fighting on multiple fronts.

I said in the League Cup quarter thread and the spurs one prior to tonight the cups are a distraction this season.

Top 4 is a real possiiblity for the first time since 2004/05 - in that time I've seen us bottle cup finals, semi finals, quarter finals and many others.

Anyone who picks the cup competition over the league this season considering the financial implications and the need to sort our FFP defecit out to give Carlo the tools to rebuild the squad are daft considering we are realistically a Man City draw away from going out of it anyway.

So no one's ever beat City then ?

Everyones beatable - but going all out for a top 4 finish whilst trying to win a trophy with a bare bones squad is like a small army deciding to invade Russia whilst also fighting half of Europe.

Ultimately unless you have a squad of genuine depth and quality (like your Manchester clubs, Chelsea etc. Who largely win trophies down to this) for me you focus on one or the other.

If we were sat 11th mate I would take 17th and a good cup run 100% but this season we have a massive chance of top 4 which will give Carlo the money required to keep this rebuild going and bringing in top drawer players and for me have to prioritise it.
