Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Anthony Gordon demanded an explanation for why he was overlooked for Everton’s start to the Premier League campaign and that he reassured the teenager he represents the future of the club.

Gordon is set to feature against Fleetwood Town tonight in the Carabao Cup having been excluded from the match-day squads for the league wins over Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion.

The 19-year-old attacker responded to being omitted against Spurs by seeking answers from Ancelotti, who said he welcomed Gordon’s inquiry.
