Match Thread Everton v Liverpool. Wednesday February 12th . 7.30 pm

0-15 minutes: Game starts and it's much less intense as many thought it would be. Liverpool on the front foot, but so far only able to get shots off from range, Pickford not required to make any real saves as such. Everton barely enter the final third of the pitch.

15-30 minutes: Mistake at the back and it's Tarkowski again, ridiculously attempting a square pass to Branthwaite after receiving a short goal kick from Pickford when he should have gone long under pressure from Jota. Branthwaite immediately closed down by Salah who falls to the ground - seemingly not under any real contact - but the referee is convinced and points to the spot. From Everton goal kick to Liverpool penalty in little over three seconds. It's Salah who steps up - and it's a goal, 1-0 to the visitors with an absolute gift from both Tarkowski, the referee and a VAR team unwilling to intervene.

30-45 minutes: Liverpool continue to press with Everton rattled. Szobozlai takes a shot from range which deflects off Gueye, it takes Pickford completely out of the game and smashes against the post, Branthwaite fortunate to be there to boot clear into the Bullens Road stand. Robertson booked after clashing with Garner.

1 minute added on: Whistle blown 47 seconds later to bring the first half to an end.

Second half: Alcaraz is brought on for Doucoure and Arnold replaced by Gomez at full back.

45-60 minutes: It's again Liverpool on the front foot looking for that second goal which will kill off the game. Salah and Mykolenko are having a good battle but he's not getting much change out of the Ukrainian. So far neither goalkeeper tested in the second period.

60-75 minutes: Jota comes off and Gakpo takes his place. Lindstrom replaces Harrison for the hosts, who gain some momentum with a series of corners, all of which are headed clear by the defenders and come to nothing. Garner is getting more into the game and he finds a fantastic though ball for Beto to run onto. He tangles with last man van Dijk outside of the box and the referee awards a free kick. The Liverpool captain is sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Eight red players surround the referee, including Robertson - already on a yellow card. Alcaraz has the ball in his hands but what's this? The referee has his hand to his ears and it appears that VAR is asking him to review the incident on the monitor. Michael Oliver is watching the foul from multiple angles, the camera zooming in on Van Dijk and Beto being shoulder to shoulder. The decision is made: Beto is adjudged to have fouled van Dijk and the decision is reversed, it's a free kick to Liverpool. The crowd are stunned, and Oliver sprints back over to the touchline and brandishes a red card card to David Moyes and substitute Seamus Coleman, seemingly for dissent. The game continues, Liverpool still a goal up.

75-90 minutes: Crunching - but fair - tackles are flying in and Gueye, Tarkowski and Beto are carded. Robertson fouls Ndiaye who has switched sides with Lindstrom, he's down clutching his left shin after a clear foul, but the full back is given a verbal warning by the referee only and not a second yellow card. Liverpool look comfortable in defence, and are holding the ball in midfield. A victory looks all but a certainty now. Michael Keane comes on in place of O'Brien and is pushed up front.

Despite the lengthy VAR check, stoppages for fouls and bookings, and numerous substitutions, only 3 minutes are added on.

91st minute: Out of nothing Everton have a corner. Robertson attempted a back pass to Allison but overhits it and the keeper is unable to prevent the corner. Pickford is up, it's a crowded area with Keane, Beto, Tarkowski and Branthwaite in there. Ndiaye swings it in and... GOAL! It's substitute Michael Keane who rises highest to power a ball past the goalkeeper. There's a shuffle on the goalline between Tarkowski and Robertson with the Everton captain attempting to grab the ball and run back to the half way line. The Scot pulls him to the ground and kicks the ball into the Gwladys Street stand, but it appears the referee didn't see it and tells both players to get up and return to their positions.

94th minute: Liverpool have brought on Quansah and Endo to see out a draw. They lose possession almost directly after their kick off and the ball falls to Keane. Allison, on the edge of his box clearly expecting to have received the ball from the kick off, is now out of position and the defender-turned-forward lofts an effort towards goal from at least 60 yards. The stadium holds its breath as the ball seems to be taking an eternity to make its way towards the goal but it's looking good, and the Brazilian goalkeeper is scrambling, eventually tripping over his own feet as the ball clips the underside of the crossbar before nestling into the net. Everton have done it, Michael Keane is the hero and the fans are in tears in the stands - have Everton won the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park in the most dramatic of circumstances?

96th minute: The whistle is blown and Everton take the three points and their 42nd and final victory against their greatest rivals at this famous stadium.
