Worried about Beckford if that team news is right. Looks like a falling out to me.

I thought Heitinga was boss for us last season at center mid. He hasn't replicated it this year but I don't mind seeing him there on the off chance. Wish Coleman was playing for him to aim his quarter-back passes at.

Definitely not. Him not starting coincides with the return of Cahill. Moyes obviously wants a physical striker who can hold up the ball and bring Cahill into play. He thinks Anichebe can do that.

EVERTON XI: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Neville, Arteta, Osman, Rodwell, Heitinga, Anichebe
Subs: Mucha, Coleman, Bilyaletdinov, Gueye, Vellios, Cahill, Beckford

Will that mean Rodwell in AM?

Slightly better than I expected... but starting with Anichebe up front is inexplicable for me. He's toothless, and that makes us toothless.

Cahill drops to bench.

Yeah... there goes my theory.

I have another though. Beckford can't play as a lone striker, and Moyes isn't prepared to play 4-4-2 anymore, so he's playing Anichebe.

I refuse to believe Beckford's been dropped to the bench because of that little spat.

Probably:

Howard
Hibbert Jags Distin Baines
Osman Neville Heitinga Arteta
Rodwell
Anichebe

No pace in that team at all. And the amount of defensive-minded players suggest we'll not be controlling the game, so pace would be useful on the counter. I do not see where the goals will come from.

At least we've got some options from the bench.

Moyes never makes non-forced subs before the 60th minute. He'll probably take off Rodwell and Arteta for Coleman and Cahill on 60 minutes, and then bring on Beckford with <10 minutes to go.

I do hope I'm wrong.

6 goals in five years from anichebe. he is a VERY poor mans Heskey. So we are clearly looking to not lose this game rather than win it...we should have went at them with pace, so Beckford and coleman should have started...should have been

coleman neville osman arteta

cahill/billy

beckford

unfortunately, we have gone ultra negative.......really disappointing

If Rodwell continues to be as anonymous as he has been for the last few months then our front two today will be among the least imposing any side will field all season. Osman must be ripping what little hair he has out at being put back on to the wing to accomodate Anichebe.

Would rather this than a half-fit Cahill playing, but Anichebe in for Beckford again is inexplicable. With Victor leading the line last week against a poor Wigan side we didn't have a single shot on target.

So Anichebe up front on his own? Why isn't Beckford starting?

Is Moyes really this stbbern? I like Moyes but seriously, he would let his own pride take priority when it comes to team selection? WTF?

*bashed head against the wall a few times*

Okay, it's out of my system now. I expect a horrible showing, and no matter what the result this reflects poorly on Moyes for me, but whatever. Hopefully it will work.

EVERTON XI: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Neville, Arteta, Osman, Rodwell, Heitinga, Anichebe
Subs: Mucha, Coleman, Bilyaletdinov, Gueye, Vellios, Cahill, Beckford

MAN CITY XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, De Jong, Vieira, Y. Toure, Milner, Silva, Dzeko
Subs: Given, Boyata, McGivern, Wright-Phillips, A. Johnson, Balotelli, Jo

Actually fuming about that line up. What exactly did Anichebe do to earn this run in the team?
