I know he wasn't available today but Beto needs a run of games.

I like Doucoure, but we could experiment and see him replace Gueye in the middle and Beto playing in behind Calvert Lewin.

Fortune favours the brave.
I’d keep the 4/4/1/1 system away from home and at Goodison against the top teams. I’d try 3/4/2/1 against the other teams at Goodison. That could mean dropping Doucoure and trying Harrison and Danjuma behind DCL or Beto.

We needed a result badly, against a team that could (and actually did towards the end of that first half) crumble under pressure....and a potential goal of the season winner gets scored against us after 2 minutes. Changes the game completely. Not VAR, not refereeing decision etc, just a goal nobody can do anything about. Just another round of our bad luck

Doucoure has underlined he has a goal or two in him. Ild keep him in the line up.

Calvert-Lewin is nothing like a clinical finisher though and I'd like to see us at least try two forwards to try and convert all the chances we create.

At home I'd lose Gueye and push Doucoure back to pair with either Onana or Garner.

Bottom line is that it'll be better to have more goal scorers on the pitch than less. If Beto gets going then we have a real chance of propelling ourselves out of this.

I never want to see Ashley Young in a blue shirt ever !! Dyche has zero game management ….. Subs and tactics Piss poor
And therein lies our trouble.

We have a 12 man squad with some odds and sods to fill the bench...Onana was injured and, as you say, Young is a walking nightmare.

Dyche isn't wildly tactically innovative on his good days, but with a bench of such mediocrity that it would be improved by Gomes, but has Keggers and Godfrey on it...Coleman must be there for sentimental reasons and Patterson as the invisible man - or something...wtf can you do.

I’d like to see something like this

Pickford
Coleman Tarks Branthwaite
Patterson. Garner Onana. Myko
Harrison. Danjuma
DCL

You could try McNeil instead of Myko, although at this moment Myko is in better form
You could put in Doucoure instead of Danjuma, but I’d like to see Danjuma tried in this position as I think it may well suit him better, same for Harrison.
You could try Beto for DCL, but I think DCL has been good since his return.
What this does is gives us more attacking players, higher up the pitch and in support of DCL. Whilst still being solid in midfield and at the back.
I wouldn’t change Garner Onana in midfield for Doucoure.

We'd end up with a flat back 5 there.

Overall, I think we need to see a lot more trust in Beto and Danjuma to get into this team and try and convert chances. If - as we all expect to happen anyway - DCL gets injured then we'll have to turn to Beto and Danjuma in any case. Let's give them game time.

The refusal to give meaningful minutes to Beto or Danjuma is infuriating.

McNeil and Harrison were also poor today. Any decent team must find it pretty easy to defend against us, knowing 2 of our "creative" players are unable to beat a man, and have limited technical ability. Thus we rely on balls into the box and hoping DCL can leap like a salmon to bring others into play.

Against the better teams yes, but against lower teams in the league, I think we are good enough to push them back and dominate the possession and territory.
If McNeil was in decent form I’d have him in for Myko, but at this moment Myko is more of a threat going forward, was unlucky not to get another goal today.
I’d stick with DCL at the moment, he’s not scored for a couple of games but he is a good player and I’d hope he’ll get on the scoresheet again soon and/or provide assists. If his form doesn’t pick up, then sure, give Beto a chance.
I do think playing in this formation would suit Harrison and Danjuma better, they don’t seem to me to be orthodox wingers, they seem happier cutting inside and trying 1-2’s on the edge of the box rather than hitting the bye line. And this formation would allow for that, they would be more central and closer to DCL, to play off, and they would be starting higher up the pitch. The only question is if Danjuma has the work rate to press and drop back and defend when needed. If he can’t, then play Doucoure. This formation also allows more players to press the opposition backline without leaving a big hole in midfield. It allows Patterson and Myko (McNeil) to overlap and provide width.

We had 3 x united players starting v united. 1 that never made the first team. 1 that made 2 appearances for them and a 50 year old young.

Says it all.

No wonder we got a deduction. Buying the league we are

Our press was garbage today - piecemeal, disjointed or non-existent, but we still made decent chances and should have scored a few, but I still feel we paid a bang average poor united side way too much respect.

The worldy probably knocked the stuffing out of the player to a degree, but our press and desire wasn’t right for much of the game.
