Allardyce by and large sorted that defence out. Making changes because our squad hasn't got very good defenders for a start.

Bernard was our best player today by a country mile, it wasn't his fault we changed shape and forced him to play in the middle when the lad is already tired.

It's less to do about changes and just how we generally play, we were as poor today as we were in the first half of fulham. Which was dire.

I'm yet to see our attacking improvements bar 2 halves of football vs Arsenal and Fulham.

he really didn't, we were utter garbage - we have been for years at defending. As a team, we defend with zero composure. Allardyce's tactic was to sit so deep that hopefully it wouldn't matter.

Bernard was our best player, so why are people whinging that he started?

People call for changes in one breath and then bemoan them in the next.

lol...I only woke up an hour and a bit ago!. Mind you, daylight saving only kicked in last weekend so I'm struggling to recapture that hour's kip I lost on Sunday.
hmmm...maybe you're right COYBL25...perhaps I should try to sneak in an extra hour in the scratcher (hopefully to have pleasant dreams of Sparky Hughes as our next manager!)

Silva did not go 'I'm going to intentionally lose this'. He put out a team with - for my liking - one or two too many changes, but ultimately the same mistakes that have happened with our first team happened again. We didn't put our chances away and we didn't defend when it mattered. That's not the changes that were the issue in that situation. That team should have had the quality to beat a second string S'ton team.

The fact that it didn't is a worry. The fact that Richarlison and Walcott both mess up their penalties has seen us not go through.

Looks I like silva. I will calm down. I am fully behind him.

But he threw that game away, just like Koeman did twice in his first year in cup competitions. He needs told what he did was unacceptable and given a final warning.

He picked a side that made it a very difficult task to win. He left all our goals out.

I'm behind him for the long term, but what he did tonight was shameful and I'm disgusted that he is yet another Everton manager who would rather try and nick an extra point to turn 9th into 8th than actually win a trophy. I like his methods. I think he is a good manager no doubt. But I will never accept complacency and throwing away winnable home games to concentrate on the Leicester game in a competition we can't win!!

Nothing wrong with Bernie starting. But subbing Niasse on of all players for Dowell made no sense because our shape was ruined, it looked like we've never even practiced a 442. Following this, the rest of the subs were just throws of the dice having attackers all over the shop.

To say Allardyce didn't improve our defence is mad. He compensated for our terrible individual players by having us sit deep and it worked. Sure we got beat heavily once or twice, but it was a helluva lot less than what had already been served up that season. We were 6th in the form table under Allardyce and got an unlikely top half finish.

I can't see Silva taking us top half. I think we're playing catch up/keep our eyes on what's below us all season from now.

Not having Pickford in goal is ridiculous, playing Bernard is great but some of the other changes are stupid

im with tim on this one .... we aint in Europe , we didnt need to rotate players and we didn't optimise our chances of winning tonight.
silva gambled and lost.

do we now have more or less of a chance beating leicester in the next game ?
personally I think less because we have no momentum and moral will be faded.

it was a managerial decision that could have a double negative wammy.
 
If players like Lookman and Dowell dont get game time then why are they here....if we get an injury they will be thrown in without having played
 
Knew exactly what would happen after seeing the line up, so sick of teams, including us, making needless changes for cup games. The EFL and FA need to look in to setting fines or limits on squad changes and any teams that don't like it can withdraw or be thrown out
