I'm looking forward to this one, like some sort of pervert.

I'm looking forward to it because I feel like it could be a decisive game.

We lose, Lampard goes. I think that's a certainty.

We win - decisively - with the Goodison crowd behind the team, and I think it could be a turning point.

A narrow win could also work, if the crowd carry the team over the line. Need that bond strengthened.

Maybe I'm wrong, and it won't change things one way or the other. But I'm invested in that being a possibility.

All this talk of relegation processions by the kopites outside our BMD stadium in May is laughable.

We are just a few points off 12th.

If we fans get behind the players in the same way that we did at the back end of last season then we will hammer Southampton on Saturday and we will be well clear of the relegation zone.

We won’t be “well clear” even if we do win.

Will be a boring draw and people saying he deserves the West Ham game.

Update from Sky Sports News at Finch Farm:

Early team news for Everton's critical Premier League clash with Southampton at the weekend suggests that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is likely to be available in a boost for Frank Lampard, but the Everton medical team must assess Bill Kenwright's fitness...for this game and for the chairmanship of the club. The wily veteran actor has been laid low with a suspected case of Sodthatforagameofsoldiers and is expected to be out of action until "good times" return to the club. Watch this space. 24/7.

Big decision for Lampard to make going into this. Does he stick with the systems adopted in Manchester or does he twist with a 'more attacking' one as it's Southampton at home?

If it were me personally, I'd start the game with this:

Pickford

Coleman - Coady - Tarkowski - Godfrey - Mykolenko

Doucoure
-- Gana --- Onana --

DC-L --- Gray

In all honesty we don't have an awful lot of options for this anyway, particularly with Iwobi now injured. I did originally think that McNeil could start ahead of Doucoure in that midfield but reckon he could be more effective off the bench if we need to change system.

If Saints are looking to get themselves on the ball in the early stages then, perhaps controversially, I say let them. Could end up playing into our hands the longer the game goes on..

I think you're right, 4 or 5 at the back is the key question.

But 5 at the back doesn't have to be a defensive formation, it all depends what you do with your full/wing backs.

Unfortunately, we've lost our most adventurous fullback, so that might not help loads.

Personally I think we need to try and go a bit more direct anyway - need to get Gray involved as much as we can as he's our most threatening player on the ball. We'd still have Gordon & McNeil to call on for some extra attacking intent should the game go that way, not to forget of course the presence of DC-L to give their centre halves something to think about.

I think the game also hinges on which version of Abdoulaye Doucoure turns up. Thought he had a pretty decent runout at United, seemed to actually find his feet a bit that evening, so we need that one to turn up..

Can't really argue with this. Whichever way you look at it, our formation is dictated more by how poor our players are than tactical acumen.
