Some save by Pickford that was. Take a bow lad.

Clearly a change in tactics.... We aren't even trying to play trough the lines. Everything long, it's not a great watch but as long as it's effective then I'm all for it. Onana played his best half for us, clearly he is holding now which seems to be his best position. We obviously need a second goal here, as poor as Soton have been they could well be level with them few chances they've had.

It is quite clear that this is our best formation and tactical shape with this group of players. It's still not great and we are susceptible to teams scoring but it gives us the best chance of winning and we actually create some opportunities.

My fear is Southampton look like scoring in ways that we really don't. They're more methodical about their approach play. We're all individual inspiration. That was a superb stop by Pickford there at the end. This match is far from over.
An age old problem with Everton........very narrow and when the opposition have the ball on the right we all follow and opposition players just pull out to the flank. We concede the flanks too easily and the switching of flanks pulls any shape we should have apart.

Our new tactic just needs to focus on set pieces only, with remaining hard to break through at the back. We're awful on the wings and have no creativity in the side, so just desperately try for corners and free kicks and hope, like today, Gray can put in 3 of 10 decent crosses and somebody can get on the end of it.
