Just want to add something about Deli Ali, he is playing well granted, and is a good player, but he just looks like another 'huff and puff' English player, all pace and power rather than technical ability.

I've read a lot about how good Spurs were in this game. To my mind they were very decent, nothing more. In fact they reminded me a lot of a Moyes team ie good possession but little consistent threat. Sure they controlled most of the first hour and hit the woodwork with two cracking efforts but I can't recall Howard having a save to make. If I was a Spurs supporter I'd have left the game thinking as I often did after Everton away games under Moyes that if the manager had let some of the players off the leash we'd have got more from the game.

1. Agree, but I do think it works against teams that we should be looking to have the majority of the game against. It doesn't work on the counter though, as Kone doesn't track back and it leaves us exposed.
2. Yep a class act. Added solidity and most importantly a bit of pace over 10 yards in midfield. Has to start against City.
3. Hmm, think it may always have been the plan, tbh.
4. Agree. He's much more dangerous playing as a 10.
5. I don't mind it, he never looked like he was gonna lose control. The crowd were the ones getting anxious, not the player.
6. Cleverley looked a lot better out wide left for me, but still could do with another player for that slot.

Christ, 2 posts in a row speaking sense! Normally that's only the case in the ale house :)

'Technical ability'. To take a ball down and then execute a finish like he did for their goal takes a lot of 'technical ability'. He's a fantastic prospect and ran the show for them.

More of a Steven Gerrard technical ability, compared to Paul Scholes.

Barkley is a lot more similar to Gerrard than he is Scholes, though...

Regardless, their both good players and fantastic prospects.

Disagree completely, Gerrard has never controlled a game from the middle of the park, with short passing, dictating pace, never.

Agree with your second line though, they are both good.

Well that's what I think makes Barkley such a talent. He has the ability to do both. I think against teams that come at us, then the 'Gerrard' role as a No.10 who bursts forward at pace suits him better and lets us play on the break at pace.

Against teams that sit back, when he has more time on the ball, a deeper role is better suited.

Agree with that, Ross is very special, and can be a Scholes type of do the Gerrard work, I can see Deli Ali doing the scholes job, not many English players ever have or will.

To be honest I think Alli will be more of a Lampard type (if we're staying with the trend of former midfielders).

He's already showing a great sense of attacking positioning at such a young age, but I would say Barkley's passing range is better at the moment. However, they're both playing at clubs and under managers who suit them perfectly, at this stage.
