Great riposte in the Echo but TBH anyone reading some of the posts on this thread would think we nicked the game by sheer luck. If you can't celebrate a 6-2 thumping of the opposition then when can you celebrate?!?

Kone, Del & Rom were immense in attack while our CB's are still forming a new partnership and our defensive line-up is far from settled. If the former keeps playing that way and the latter improves we've got a hell of a chance of handing out another thumping or two this season. Looking forward to the run of games we've got coming up after that performance... COYB!
Apparently we have to remain muted in our celebrations because Sunderland had 8 shots on target. It's a great cause for concern, and though Everton scored 6 goals - and you would think the team had a good day at the office - it should be recognised that it could easily have been an 8-6 defeat.

Just watched the game again and the second half is absolutely glorious. Yes, you can say that Sunderland were pony, but the second half is the quintessence of being "put to the sword." Honestly. Del's cross for the third (the own goal) was great: Lukaku would have scored if Coates hadn't kicked it into his own net. There was a number of amazing passages before the simplicity of Stone's pass to Del who set an absolute peach for Lukaku who scored. 4-2. That's from defense to goal in two passes: route one? Yeah, we spent 28 million for Lukaku (how much did Luke Shaw cost? Lallana?) and if you put a ball in front of Rom, I don't know if I can think of a better striker running onto a ball with players/goalie to beat. Once again from defense: del to Mccarthy to Barkley to Mcacarthy to Kone: 5-2. Think we need to recognize Del as a supreme counter attacking force in this game. And then raining down from the stands "E--V--E--R--T--O--N, We're Everton..." (Tear-jerking tribute to the Gaffer that everyone gets: John Champion commentating on the game talks about how moving it is) Then some ridiculous tippy-tappy: a true joy to behold and I imagine great for the team's confidence, from which Kev's cutback might have led to a goal. A great passage of play. Then that amazing counter-attack in which Kev vaulted the goal keeper and nearly scored (rather than collapse for the foul). The last piece of "mindless" tippy tappy leads to Rom crossing from the outside of his left foot to set Kone up for the goal. When we win the league, they'll point to this as the turnaround. :celebrate:

I have a couple of moans: firstly, the corners and free kicks. Barkley sucks when he takes them

Get the ball into the danger area and lets hope that their goalie is as bad as ours and that the odd goal results. Cleverley at least hits his corners at pace. EFC have a poor scoring record from corners yet Barkley keeps on hitting the first defender. Sort it out RM!!

And secondly why are substitutes not ready to go asap. Oviedo went down clutching his hamstring yet Galloway was still screwing around two minutes later. Sunderland actually attacked with menace along the wing and caused me heart palpitations at the time.

And we do not mark men at short corners.

I used to blame the players - now I think that perhaps the players are following instructions.

But it's still a danger and is still leading to goals.

Drove down from Glasgow in horrible, foggy conditions and it was worth every minute of the journey.

Loved every second of the game and always thought we would win, even when they equalised.

Fantastic entertainment and a great example of how good a football match can be.

Who cares how poor they were, or how we conceded simple goals? If you score more than the opposition you win.

My boy and his pal also got photos with a few players and both are now massive Everton fans, willing to miss Celtic matches, and we are planning our next visit, probably the Spurs game due to other commitments.

Thought Kone was superb and hope he takes confidence from his performance and repeats it more often.

Love meeting Everton fans when we come down and hope to get to know more of you during the next visit. Love the humour as well but will need to brush up on my scouse as we're left confused far too often. COYB.

It's a very subtle difference between booing Kone and booing Martinez for bringing Kone on.

Just look at the reaction here;

Naismith FFS not Kone

Oh come on!?!? Kone?

KONE IS COMING ON?!

NO WHY KONE WHY

Oh god why. Why are we doing this

Ugh....Kone.

Good move if we had other striker than Kone

lol at the idea Kone will make a difference.

Okay, so he basically took one of the DMs off and got another striker on, good...
...except that Barry is now at the LB, and the second striker is Kone. FFS.

What a pathetic showing I am a Martinez fan but that substitution is a joke

Kone is never going to score

It's very easy with the benefit of hindsight to take the moral high ground. People use facts to form opinions, the fact is Kone had been here for two years and shown absolutely nothing; before his injury he missed an open net or two and people had every right to question bringing him on rather than someone like say, Naismith, who often makes a very good impact from the bench.

Kone has since proved himself, but it's pretty ridiculous of you to quote everyone on it as if you knew all along.

He did nothing except miss glorious chances for two years but this season he's been ace. It's not like people were wrong when they said he has been terrible and you can see why we didn't expect him to change the game at the time. He even looked poor in preseason ffs!

He showed how well he could play at Goodison in the FA Cup!

Is it so hard to hold your hands up and admit that you were wrong?
