Like many I've haven't felt this confident going into a derby in years.

I'm putting this down one main reason - knowing that Slippy G won't be there to dive in the box for an 89th minute pen / score a screamer from 40 yards / feign injury and get one of ours sent off / attempt to ref the game as he normally did / etc, etc.

Carra was on SSN earlier bemoaning the fact that for the first time in ages the RS will have no local players in their side - a fact that could also be telling.

Nope :D Even his protege (hendo nagasaki) isn't there to do it, neither (Except the 40 yarder 'cos he's plainly incapable of that)......No doubt they'll get their usual favour or three, though.

Still won't be enough. They're gettin' it. And they'll all pretend they're not arsed because they all want rid of gnashers - Except we'll still hear the usual: "They only raise their game for us" garbage.

Bad biffs.

I'm confident and I don't share this fear and pessimism that a lot of blues do. Maybe its because I grew up in the 90s, a period in which we used to regularly batter them.

It is exactly because of that mate. Some of us of a certain vintage have a weird, but understandable, Liverpoolitus that is irrational, and frankly, damn annoying. @ianefc

edit. Looks like I am being nasty to Ian there ffs! I am not. I share the affliction.

The reason we underperform as a team in derby matches (give or take one or two ridiculous tactical set ups like the 13/14 Anfield derby) is because our players who have previously been on the top of their game fail to turn up. This time round at least 2 out of Barkley, Lukaku and Delofeu will need to play towards the top of their abilities. This plus competent performances from all the others should be enough.

As against two of Ross, Rom and Gerard playing towards the top of their abilities, I'd like the whole team and whichever subs are used to have the games of their lives... and we absolutely stuff the RS like they've never been stuffed before and given a humbling that will take them at least a generation to recover from.

I'll be a hell of a lot more confident if i see Coleman and Stones in the starting 11 when the teams are announced

Barkley
Lukaku
Deulefeu
Stones

All top, top players.
In the course of 90 mins on Sunday, any one of these are capable of making the step up to 'legend' status.

My money is on Ross.

I really hope we do these Sunday, but I am never too confident against the RS, and especially after seeing who the Ref is.
