Match Thread Everton vs Liverpool, Goodison Park, Oct 4th, 2015

This fixture does fill me with dread. As some posters have pointed out if you're over a certain age the majority of memories are painful ones. Mine started in 1966 with that Charity Shield game at Goodison. Since then there have been a few happy days but many more tough ones. My favourite one is just a few months after that Charity Shield game when Alan Ball did them on that wonderful Saturday night game.

So the dead weight of history is against us. Seems to me that this angst always transmits itself to the players on the pitch and they become more likely to bottle it. Once fear gets into a players head, things go wrong. That horrible semifinal at Wembley when Carragher messed up and gave the ball to Jelavic only for Distin to do the same and let them back in. Gary Stevens too in 1986.

So the secret for RM is to instil in the boys discipline (Maybe it's better that Mirallas isn't playing....I don't trust his mentality in these games. See Suarez L and Barrow M) and shape.

"Don't let the crowd's edginess get to you...stay professional....be ruthless......play the game our way......do that and you'll go down in history at this club........"

That's the key today.

We'll lose 1-2 I think

Stones and Coleman being out would be pretty bad. Liverpool's one strength will be if Coutinho and Sturridge link up well, so a frail defence would give them a big chance.

Could be a lot of goals in this.

Always seems to be the norm before a Derby, we get injuries to some of our boss players, the redshite get their better players coming back, ie Sturridge.

Feels that way but there´s been plenty examples of the opposite, like when they played with their 3rd choice keeper and we still didn´t manage to score a goal or when we had Barkley coming back into the derby but doing absolute nothing for 90 min.
