Everton Youth Teams Thread

Chelsea ridiculously stacked with players at this level.

We'd do well to be showing young English players a pathway to first team football so we can snap a few of them up.

The likes of Rhian Brewster and Hudson Odoi are from this age group too.
Yeah , Panzo from the Workd Cup squad is missing from Chelsea too, but then again we could have Gibson, Hornby and Collins playing so a good test of both teams.
Good to see Elliot Richards captaining the side ahead of older players like Ouzonidis, augurs well for the future, and young Ryan Astley getting more game time too.

Denny as well. I suppose it’s all about progress.
Where does Richards play?

thought he had great game last week

Yep, forgot Denny.
Richards is a centre back, though first time I saw him he came on as a right back in one of those pre season tournaments and caught my eye then. He seems to have established himself as the preferred CB pairing alongside Michael Collins, ahead of Con Ouzonidis.

Why do we choose to play weakened teams in these games?

I understand it's about development but at certain times you must play your best team as the result DOES matter.

Derbies, title deciders against teams bottom of the league, FAYC games, we should be preparing for them properly trying to win.

They certainly do at the other 3 Cat 1 clubs in the North West and that's even at under 9 level.

I said it last week but there we go again today, another week side out outin a big game.

I do not know what we’re playing at but we should be all out to win these tournaments and make ourselves more attractive to the top young talent.

Yeah, I was saying something similar re the u18s we played at U23s level , it would have been a good chance instead of them being in the U23s to see how they shape up against what has been the best U18 squad in recent years in Chelsea. On the other hand we can demonstrate that we give talent a chance to play up early if they are good enough e.g. Ryan Astley starting today which he probabaly wouldn’t have if the likes of Collins and Denny hadnt been playing up too.

Do you have any insight into our capture of Max Thompson from United mate.?. He seems to have been recognised as one of their up and coming youngsters, suffered a bad injury , came back last November for them, all seemed well and then suddenly we’ve captured him. It would seem to be a good coup for us to attract him from United.

...real praise and an interesting insight into our Academy from Craig Short ahead of Derby’s visit tomorrow;

It's never been a central tenant to the EFC academy, they have always focussed heavily on pushing players through. At times we've preferred to have lads playing 15 minutes for a side higher up than winning a tournament in their own age.
