Everton Youth Teams Thread

To be fair to Walsh he joined a club in and around the play offs last January and even when they started to drop down the table, the manager was reluctant to change to team for some reason.

He also had to wait fir his chance this season, when it finally come he was really impressive and was getting praised by all the fans, who were saying he should stay in the team. Unfortunately he picked up an injury and is still out.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Walsh eventually gets to the premier league.
Yeah I wasn't meaning to talk down Walsh, or any of the others. I just mean that sometimes people get it in their head that player x is the best of the group (usually because they play for the national under 17s or whatever) and that becomes a 'fact' when it's really just an opinion. I don't believe Ledson was rated more highly than Davies, because he was on a recallable loan when Davies got into the side. If we'd genuinely seen him as the better prospect we could have brought him back and played him, but we didn't. Davies was 17 when he was picked for the first time, and people often forget that he wasn't forced into action in an emergency, he was picked on merit. He's also gone on to play for England under 21s which the others haven't.

I know he didn't do so well at Wigan but I think Connolly might be worth keeping if he comes back as a squad player down to the number of positions he covers. These youngsters don't always have to be starters they can be squad players on lower wages who are less likely to rock the boat if not starting games.

...it’s great having players who are versatile (Kevin Richardson, Alan Harper types), but the squad is already too big and these youngsters will have to be very special to have a future here. They really have to be regulars in the lower divisions.

Nonsense, ledson would've been on the bench for the first team at 16 if he wasn't away on international duty. He just didnt kick on for whatever reason
Calm yourself, I meant at the time in question, not ever. The point was that while Ledson had once been very highly rated, it's probably not as much as of a coincidence as you think that he was on loan in League 2 while Davies was playing in the PL. He'd already plateaued, it wasn't just unfortunate timing.

I think we had embarrassment of riches in cm at time Ledson, Williams, Walsh, Davies and Baningime. They were never all going to make it here. 3 are still on the books if just one makes it as a full time regular it'll save us £20 million if 2 even better.

Yeah I think Bolton is his last chance really as size of our squad is ridiculous at moment although I do think Everton academy does seem to produce a lot of players who make it even if its not with us.

Walsh was in the under 20 squad for the World Cup witt the other 5 Everton lads, but again he was unlucky witt injury.

That’s how it goes some times, getting injured or out on loan and somebody else gets the chance. Obviously if you’re good enough, eventually you will get your chance
