Everton u23s go 2nd after tonights 4-1 win v Derby [ Simms 2, Anderson, Bowler]. Next Game is Home to Man City sunday 1pm ko, its not down to be live on either teams websites so we are probably needing City to come here and stream it, City did go and stream there away game at Blackburn last week but didnt show there home game v Derby on the 1st day - so its a wait and see later in the week or day of the game, highlights of tonights game soon

There was article somewhere last week I read when the Derby news came out, basically he thinks hes better than he is and should be playing 1st team football for a top team. Maybe finding himself at derby might make him catch on he's not all that yet.
Indeed. He, Bobby Duncan, was at City until he was 16 but refused to sign for them , didn’t play for about 6 months if I remember right. Wanted to go the the RS , which he did. Then refused to sign a further contract for them moved to Italy. Don’t know what happened then but I can guess.

Match report from Derby

Derby County Under-23s suffered their first defeat of the new 2020/21 Premier League 2 Division 1 campaign as they were beaten 4-1 by Everton.

Ellis Simms had given Everton an early first-half lead, and just after the break, Joe Anderson fired the Toffees into a two-goal advantage.

Tyree Wilson netted his first goal of the season as his free kick 10 minutes into the second half rebounded off the crossbar and went in.

However, Josh Bowler’s strong run and finish took the game away from the Rams, whilst Simms’ second of the evening ensured Derby came away pointless.

Derby were rocked in the early moments of the game as a nasty clash of heads in the middle of the park saw Cameron Cresswell depart the game early. He was replaced by Connor Dixon.

And a minute later, Everton took the lead. A slick move through the middle found the onrushing Simms and he fired past Henrich Ravas to give the home side the lead.

It could have been two soon after. Archie Brown was booked for the Rams for bringing down Josh Bowler on the edge of the box. The winger picked himself up and whipped his free kick against the post and the ball fell to safety.

The Rams worked their way back into the game but chances were at a premium. Joe Bateman’s tame header wide on the half hour mark was the closest Derby came to scoring.

At the other end, Callum Connolly, who was booked on the 35th minute, stung the palms of Ravas five minutes later as Everton went into the break with the one-goal lead.

The hosts doubled their lead straight after the restart through Anderson’s fierce strike. A corner into the box was not cleared properly and Anderson, who was all alone on the edge of the box, had time to pick his spot.

However, Derby reacted well and minutes later, Festy Ebosele’s won a free kick in a positive position for the Rams. Wilson lined up an effort and found the top corner to reduce the arrears.

There was an extra spring in the Rams’ steps, but three minutes later, Everton regained their two-goal advantage once again. Bowler’s pace saw him out pace the defence and he found the corner to score.

Derby continued to press and tried to pick holes in the Toffees defence but were met by a stubborn Everton defence.

With the Rams throwing men forward, Everton found the spaces and a long ball threaded through to Simms was finished well by the forward to put the gloss on the scoreline.

Everton Under-23s assistant manager John Ebbrell saluted the squad’s “real appetite” as the young Blues claimed their second convincing home victory on the spin with a 4-1 win over Derby County at Southport.

A double from Ellis Simms and further goals from Joe Anderson and Josh Bowler secured another Premier League 2 triumph following Everton’s 3-0 success against Leicester City last Monday.

And Ebbrell was full of praise for the commitment and desire that the Blues have shown since their disappointing derby defeat on the opening game of 2020/21.

“It was a good solid team performance against Derby,” said the former Toffees midfielder. “There was good intensity about our play and we are pleased with the lads. It’s always a tough game against Derby and they lifted their game in the second half, so we had to match them and go again, and that’s what we did.

“We’ve got a really good bunch of young players who have got a real appetite. We see that in training and we are very demanding of them. They are eating up everything that we are serving them in the training sessions and they are starting to show it in matches.”

Everton were dominant for the majority of the game.

They came close to opening the scoring after just six minutes when a Bowler free-kick was headed over by Matthew Pennington.

The opening goal came after 11 minutes, though. Rhys Hughes fed the ball infield to Einar Iversen who placed a well-weighted pass into the path of Simms. With a clear run on goal, there was little doubt the striker would find the target and he duly drilled a low shot past Henrik Ravas.

Shortly after the opener, Bowler fired in a direct free-kick from the right of the penalty area that fizzed past Ravas but smashed into the post and the half-time margin could, and maybe should, have been greater than a single goal.

Hughes created space for himself on the edge of the box with some sweet footwork but his final effort was smothered by Ravas, and then in added time, Con Ouzounidis headed over from close-range.

The second Everton goal, two minutes into the second period, was a cracker. A corner from the right reached Anderson and he slammed an unstoppable drive through a packed penalty area and into the net.

Derby’s response was a wonderfully struck free-kick from Tyree Wilson on 54 minutes that found the top corner to half the deficit.

The two-goal cushion was soon restored, though, when Bowler ran onto Pennington’s through ball to finish nicely.

Simms scored his second goal four minutes from time. Ryan Astley played a delightful through pass behind the Rams defence and Simms placed his shot past Ravas to make it 4-1.

There was still time for Pennington to hit the bar with a header as Everton pushed for a fifth goal.

Ebbrell welcomed another goalscoring display from Simms, while also giving words of encouragement to the central-defensive du of Ouzounidis and Astley.

“Ellis is outstanding in one on ones, a really good finisher,” said Ebbrell. “I’m pleased for him but I’m sure he’ll be the first to say that the lads behind him put a real shift in.

“Since that game [against Liverpool] our quality has been excellent. Our training is geared towards being difficult to play against and defending is paramount. I thought the two centre-backs, Con Ouzounidis and Ryan Astley did ever so well tonight.

“We’ve done well and there is still more to come.”
