Everton Youth Teams Thread

The Athletic has chosen Tyler Onyango as the Everton nominee in their “ 20 young Premier League players to watch out for in 2021” Theres not much in the article that’s worth repeating , regular readers here will know it anyway . A reference to young Tyler being “ promoted” to training with the first team ahead of the WHU match is interesting, I think he’s trained generally with the first team before , maybe that’s a specific to being integral to the training for this match. John Ebbrell has the last word along the lines of he’s only 17 , U23s football is a big ask and there’s a lot of scope for improvement, which is a fair assessment of a very talented player.

In a way Onyango is a good choice, the obvious one would have been Jarrad Branthwaite but I suppose he’s been highlighted already, and Thierry Small is a good shout for next year’s choice.

Oh Dear.

Abysmal.

Watching Tottenham bringing on youth players here. It's Marine like. But still. Just no one coming through for us atm.
Yeah, in many ways the game this weekend was a little bit damning in that respect, the two Everton products in the game hardly shone and the difference between Nkokoku and Gordon was night and day, especially when Niels is supposedly a left back rather than a winger. Another product in Kenny can’t even get a look in despite Coleman, regrettably, dropping off a cliff in terms of ability.

We’re having to burn through money to keep a competitive squad together. That pipeline really needs sorting because it just isn’t producing.

The 2020-21 FA Youth Cup is to be suspended until the national COVID-19 lockdown ends later this year, report Oliver Kay and Philip Buckingham.

Third round matches are being played this week, but the tournament for under-18 sides is to be suspended as a result of the worsening COVID-19 situation, with an FA announcement expected on Tuesday evening.

The 2019-20 FA Youth Cup was also suspended. The tournament was brought to a halt in March and not finished until November, with Manchester City beating Chelsea in the final.

What matches have taken place?

Third round matches are currently taking place.

Swindon Town today beat Bromley while Tottenham Hotspur fought back to beat Newport County.

West Brom are scheduled to travel to Basford United for a 7pm kick off.

What happened to last season’s tournament?

The 2019-20 FA Youth Cup had reached the semi-final stage when the season was brought to a halt by the impact of COVID-19.

The tournament resumed later in the year with Manchester City beating Chelsea in November.

What is the COVID-19 situation in football?

There was a slight improvement when the Premier League revealed their latest testing figures on Monday.

The figures had fallen from 40 positive cases to 36 in the last two rounds of testing from 2,593 checks of players and staff.

Aston Villa’s game against Tottenham in mid-week was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the Midlands club.

Spurs will now face Fulham instead, who are thought to be unhappy at the short notice.

We can confirm our decision to temporarily suspend the 2020-21 FA Youth Cup and have discussed this with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and the competing clubs.

The health and wellbeing of players and staff are of paramount importance and we intend to resume the national competition once the UK Government’s current national COVID-19 lockdown concludes and it is deemed safer for clubs to travel.

The FA Youth Participation & Development Committee, which is responsible for management of the competition, will continue to review the situation and we will provide further updates at the earliest opportunity.
