Everton Youth Teams Thread

Club reportedly want to sign 18-year-old AZ Alkmaar centre-back Luuk Kluiters. I’ll leave link to article which is in Dutch so will have to be translated. They make it out to be a done deal however contradict themselves slightly.

@Dutch Toffee Any idea what the original article says.

Done deal apparantly depending he gets a work permit. Will sign till 2023, with an option for a further year. Will join up with the U-23 squad. Everton fought off interest from Ajax an QPR amongst others.

Cheers. Only article I could find is from 2 years ago that said Ajax were trying to take him. Obviously still tracking him, fingers crossed he's decent.

Anyone know is simms back training with the u23s instead of the 1st team?
Would be disappointing for him in sure if he can't even train with the 1sts in preseason

The only info I’ve seen is that Neil Critchley said he needed an operation on his groin injury and the presumption was that he hadn’t returned to training yet. As we know , we rarely get uptodate injury info on youngsters from the club so it’s likely to be true.

Edit :
Blackpool boss Neil Critchley has confirmed that his side are monitoring Ellis Simms’ Everton situation with a view to re-signing the forward this summer.

Simms, who Critchley has also revealed has undergone surgery, spent the second-half of last season on loan at Bloomfield Road and scored 10 goals in 23 appearances to help the Seasiders reach the League One play-off final.

Cheers, thought the injury he picked up before the play off final might have been an issue.
Hopefully back soon

if we're signing this dutch centre back kid we must have changed our minds about bringing carraghers kid in from wigan
I expect so/hope so. It will be interesting to see what we do with all the CBs we have amassed. I have mentioned before, that I cant see a future for Kristensen and Hagan beyond their current deals and Thompson was released this year. Based on the website we have 10+ CBs across 18s and 23s.

yeh neither look particularly good, whereas Welch looks quality. Campbell also looks very promising

I think it is more on the progression pathways of the players. The club have put their hat on Welch and see him for the long term. Kristensen and Hagan are different types of player. Hagan very combative and a traditional type of CB. Kristensen is well balanced and can play with both feet.
Welch had a slow start to season, making errors and poor decisions. Physically he has it, and he got stronger toward the end of the season, so hopefully he kicks on.

…not sure I get these ‘pathway’ plans. You can agree pathways but at the end of the day, youngsters need to impress to progress, they need to be outstanding to make the leap to first team.
