Everton Youth Teams Thread

Disagree completely. We had 2 young lads last year showing fantastic form in the league cup, but when opportunities came up through injury they were both overlooked. Out of form senior players were preferred and others played out of positions.

We haven't had a manager that trusted young players since Martinez and I very much doubt Benitez is any different.
“ Fantastic form in the league cup” ? They both came on in the last few minutes with the game won, no chance of them coming on if we were drawing, Small’s appearance was a sweetener for him to sign the contract he was offered, Onyango was the other player, just a taste of what it was like to play in the first team, then unfortunately he got injured in an FA youth cup tie and his season was over, hope he comes back this season and shows what he can do.

I was referring to Nkounkou and Gordon in the early rounds of the League cup. You're talking about Small and Onyango in the FA Cup.

He trusted young players if they were good enough is what I'm saying. Most managers don't. None of ours have since him, except the few games from Unsworth of course.

We don't know what would have happened to our "golden generation" had he stayed. In fairness he didn't have a great deal to work with before they came through. Browning being the only standout player from about 3/4 years of produce. And he was hampered with injuries.

They'd have been playing in the championship with the rest of the squad if he stayed! lol

Kouyates post on Instagram would suggest he's back fit so hopefully he can have an impact with the u23s this season
I wonder if Kouyate has grown/ physically developed any more in the time away. Lots of potential, he has a look of a “ wild pony” about him, chasing around with lots of energy, compared to say the more cultured skills of Dobbin. You’d expect him to start upfront with the u18s first , but certainly u23s this season. For me Cannon and Garcia werent that impressive at U23s the other night, Dobbin too struggled a bit and Whitaker ,despite his goals, is great for his work rate and link play but not an out an out attacker who could lead the line. Should be interesting to see how Kouyate fits into the mix.

interesting Mills has been bumped up so quick considering he'd barely played for the u18s this time last year, maybe a reward for his goal on Monday.
Yeah Mills has been a surprise package this year, and in fairness to him he was more than just his goal on Monday, looking a better attacking threat than McAllister when he came on and then slotting into the right back position when Anderson went off ( John went to L back) . Either way, if Rafael is rewarding the youngsters for good performance it can only be encouraging for them. I’m surprised Astley isn’t there, maybe too many centre backs.

Supposedly this is the new current rule which i didnt actually know about till i seen before, meaning if that is true that the Everton u23s game Monday Night wont be on, as West Ham v Leicester is Monday,

The new PL broadcast deal means that only PL2 games that don't clash with Sky or BT games can be shown. Clubs with streaming services are trying to renegotiate this element to allow them to show the games

Looks like Welch, Whitaker, Dobbin and Mills training with the first team this week: https://www.evertonfc.com/galleries/2224012

….Welch has some size on him looking at that 1st team training video, he was always tall but looks like he’s really shot up. Be interesting where he fits in the long-term pecking order with the likes of Gibson and Branthwaite.
