….I think with keepers it’s lots to do with fulfilling fixtures. It’s not like playing a CB at FB, we need sufficient goalkeeper resource for cover. Also, the club might rate him but he might’ve only been willing to sign a 3 year contract.

Is that not the theory with every loan we've ever done? Gibson, Pennington et Al.

Virginia was a better prospect for me and he's may only get a minimal fee from Sporting. Goalkeepers just aren't very in demand

Virginia stopped playing 23s games when he became the 3rd choice keeper under Ancelotti. I'm sure they're planning for this to be Tyrer's last season of 23s football, so I wouldn't worry too much about pathways being blocked. If anything, the signing of Lonergan could be said to have blocked Tyrer's pathway. He's still managed to train with the first team a lot this year and is seemingly highly rated.

He still makes strong runs out wide , goes direct for goal as well as crosses, but he also played a cute inside ball from the middle to set Simms up with a great chance. Our policy change of playing the youngsters in the U23s earlier is paying dividends for Mills, he’s probably played more games than Gordon did at the same age already this season. Whereas Gordon was the standout in his year there are 3or 4 others ( Welch, Price, Whitaker, Campbell) who have also got peoples attention in his year, but you’d have to say he’s also earned a call to “train with the first team“ sometimes while continuing his development at U23s.

Seen Tyrer a few times on the streaming for the 23s and I really like him.

Came for one cross last night and took ball, his own man and the opponent with him.

I hope he shows that trick to Jordan at first team training.

Well deserved the new contract and best of luck to the lad.
