Everton Youth Teams Thread

This gets said a lot but I really don't know who people think Unsworth was holding back over the years when he won those PL2 titles.
It’s not about winning academy football and the football he was serving up was horrendous. Who came through who did he improve?. I remember the year inbetween the titles and nothing to play for and he was picking Connor grant at 23? And David henen also a similar age who were both leaving at the end of the season. While Antony Gordon at 17 sat on the bench. He also kept a number of 20/21yr olds around the squad for years instead of them going out on
Loan.

And then Bill gives him the academy director job 🙈🙈🙈

At the time I said both Gordon and Simms should have been playing more games in the u21/23 when they were second year u18s. Unsworth often said “ It’s a big step up “ and I believe held them back. Neither were anywhere near first team football, but both were capable of playing up a level at 18. It was only when Brands starting changing things that we started to see players playing up more.

I’ve seen 2 1/2 matches worth of Mansfield this season , they are a very good footballing side for League 2 . They had a hard game on a heavy pitch on Saturday so they’re likely to rest a number of players and concentrate on getting promotion, they’re undefeated in the League this season. After two defeats we‘re not getting out of the Group stages so it doesn’t matter what team we put out, may as well give the likes of Coleman, Onyango, Dobbin a run out.

If the biggest gripe is we 'held back' two players we got 50 million for then he didn't do too badly. Gordon at 17/18 was 2 stone soaking wet he might well have been too young, whilst opting for a Broadhead or Hornby is hardly a heinous crime.

But him playing Conor Grant didn't hold anyone back. Unless you think Dennis Adeniran or Liam Walsh could've made it? As for the loans we were still guilty of that last season with Cannon, Price and Mills. This year Astley is the same.
