EVERTON u18s win 4-3, Lavery and Broadhead with 2 each

[7 games in league]

Man city 15 points from 5 games --plus 9
Everton 12 points from 6 games --minus 1
Chelsea 11 points from 6 games-- plus 6

Everton play man city tuesday night
Cheers for updates mate. So the worse we will finish is 3rd, and probably have to beat City to finish 2nd, can't see City not winning it though. Top 3 and pushing City and Chelsea to the end is a satisfying result given that those two have had the best squads all season. A good mix too of youngsters like Alex Denny, 1st and 2nd year scholars. Think that's 16 goals for Broadhead, and Lavery has bagged a few in recent games, will be interesting to see how both progress next season.

anyone worked out if we will qualify for youth champions league for next season?

It appears not.

City as champions would qualify if Man City reach the group stage OR as champions.

Rather than their place going to the runners up (us or Chelsea) it would go to the next highest UEFA ranked nation.

Basically the Luxembourg U19 champions would go in rather than us.

Crikey that's bizarre. I'd assumed that Chelsea would qualify as they ve just won the tournament and maybe we'd get the spot reserved for the National Champions if City qualified by right.

From the OS
Everton Under-18s produced a stunning comeback to keep their title hopes alive with a 4-3 victory over West Ham United at Finch Farm.

The young Blues found themselves 2-0 down after just 21 minutes as both Daniel Kemp and Anthony Scully capitalised on mistakes to give the Hammers full control of the contest.

But Shayne Lavery netted on the half-hour mark before Nathan Broadhead pulled Kevin Sheedy’s side level just seconds before the break.

Broadhead then scored from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half but a Callum Lees own goal levelled the game once again on 65 minutes.

The game showed no signs of slowing down as both sides searched for a winner and it would be the Blues that would find that crucial goal as Lavery slammed home his second of the game to clinch an all-important three points.

Everton Under-18s headed into their game with West Ham knowing only a win would keep their title dreams alive but those hopes had been dented after an opening 21 minutes to forget.

Winger Kemp picked up a loose ball deep in Everton’s half and curled the ball past Ciaran O’Loughlin on six minutes, before a mix up allowed Scully to round the keeper and double their advantage.

The Blues had to find a way back into the game quickly and they did that just that 10 minutes later as right-back Yates drilled in a low cross for Lavery, who was on hand at the back post to prod home.

It was now all Everton and their efforts were rewarded with an equaliser just seconds before the break as Lavery turned provider for Broadhead who fired low past United keeper Nathan Trott.

Everton couldn’t afford to start the second half in the same fashion as the first - and they didn’t.

Defender Yates raced into the box before being fouled by a West Ham defender and the referee pointed straight to the spot – despite shouts from the West Ham coaching staff claiming the foul was outside the area.

Broadhead stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to net his 16th goal of the campaign and give the Toffees the lead for the first time in this entertaining affair.

However, that joy of taking the lead would be short lived as a dangerous free-kick from United midfielder Scully was headed into his own net by Blues centre-half Lees.

Still, the game continued at a fast pace as both sides pushed for the next goal and Lavery nearly nodded the Toffees ahead once again but his glancing header went just wide.

But it wouldn’t be long before the striker was finding the net once again.

Broadhead and Nathan Holland worked it well down the right-hand side before the latter found Lavery who took one touch and smashed home to clinch a hard-fought win.

Next up for the young Blues is the visit of league leaders Manchester City on Tuesday evening - and Academy Coach Sheedy believes the pressure will be on the visitors.

“We were the better team today and we deserved to win. I couldn’t fault the efforts of my players,” Sheedy told evertonfc.com

“I mentioned to the lads the other day that a couple of years ago when we won the league, it was in Liverpool’s hands and they drew their last game so there is that little bit of added pressure on.

“If they win, they win, but if they don’t, we are in a position if they do slip up to capitalise on it.”

Everton starting XI: O’Loughlin, Yates, Harrington, Denny, Lees, Yarney, Morris, Kiersey (C), Lavery, Holland, Broadhead.
Substitutes: Johnson, Myers, Mellen, Virtanen, Mampala.

West Ham starting XI: Trott, Sylvestre, Neufville, Henry, Akinola, Eggleton, Scully, Johnson, Ford, Powell, Kemp.
Substitutes: Hannam, Matrevics, Longelo-Mbule, Hamilton, Wels.

Thanks for the info ; Scully takes me back lol

Well we've had many discussions on this thread about who we thought were the most able players and who should make a PL start

Great run and pass from Liam Walsh in the 94minute to set up victory for Yeovil
He always looks so small , but great fitness and skill to keep ahead of chasing players while retaining the ball and picking out the right pass for the goal. He offers something different from our other young midfielders, you couldn't compare him as a DFM in the Davies/Ledson/ Williams bracket nor as a sublime attacking MF in the way Dowell is , he's got his own style yet offers something in each area. 18 years old, performing really well but in a team at the lower end of League2 so a long way to go in his development to see which level he can reach. Exciting!

This accidentally came to my attention, George Green scoring for Burnley, Chris Long coming back after injury . Who knows, next season they could get more PL minutes than our current youngsters.

Development Squad are through to the Final Third Development League Cup final with a fine 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

Second half goals from winger George Green and striker Ntumba Massanka sealed the victory for the Clarets at Rockcliffe Training Ground.

The Clarets, who defeated Bradford and Morecambe in earlier rounds, will now face Stoke City in the final!

First team squad member Daniel Lafferty played the duration, while Chris Long played 70 minutes in his comeback from a hamstring injury.

I'd have liked to have seen long get a bit more time, but I'd still be surprised if he gets regular game time in the Premiership. I don't think we have much choice with Green but it's good to see him coming back.

Hi mate, I have done a few posts on Dowell on here and have always tried to be balanced (and at times quite critical) so I hope what I am saying here won't seem like I am going over the top.

I had always worried that he might be a luxury player. When he was younger that was probably the one major critique of him along with lacking a potential yard of pace. However this year that has definitely changed. He demands the ball now and is a strong, quicker runner. He has increasing influence in games and needs to be central to them. Without the ball he does work quite hard, not as much as a Cleverley/Lennon but probably does more than Barkley does.

I think he is going to be a very strong player for us in all honesty. His special awareness is fantastic as is his vision.

A new manager coming in? I think it depends on the type of manager we get. I hope we get one who is happy to give young players a chance as I think he should be with the first team squad this pre-season and next season. At present I'd have him over our current wide players and with Barkley's recent form maybe over him too.

with regards to your post about a "luxury! player, so to speak - it's something our first team desperately needs. Most of the other top teams have that luxury attacking midfielder who just roam around and win games, you think of silva and de bruyne at city, fabregas at chelsea, eriksen/alli at spurs, mahrez to an extend at leicester, ozil at arsenal, mata at united, payet at west ham, coutinho at the RS and tadic at saints - you'd say there all our rivals at the top of the table (when normal service is resumed) - yet we don't have that, they usually cost big bucks. We have barkley in the position, but he's more dynamic. I truly believe we could outscore most teams in the prem so ross playing from depper centre mid with a player like this in front would see us reap success more often than not.

Hopefully that can be dowell, time will tell.
