Everton's Under 21's In The EFL Trophy

The best first team striker I’ve seen finishing one to one’s was Lineker. The only other one since then who came close was Lukaku. It’s a hard skill to master.

Deffo mate, look at Calvert Lewin as an examples. Decent at lots of different things but one on one you'd probably get decent odds of him actually slotting.

Some players just seem to have a natural ability to slot and don't complicate things when through on goal.

Yep, you normally expect the shorter nippy striker's to want to play on the shoulder of defender's to get in but he's a decent unit is Simms.

If he can really work on his hold up play and aerial play then we might just have a decent striker on our hands and boy have we needed one for a long long time.

....stating the obvious, but that skill set becomes much more difficult in open-age football because the keepers are much better quality and defenders faster and stronger. Simms will need to continue his development, both from a physical and quality perspective.

I think it’s a mental thing, more than a football skill thing, just being able to keep calm under pressure. Easy to say, hard to do.

100%, and we were all looking and asking why he wasn't getting game time as Unsworth has just gently eased him in.. I think that's his 3rd goal in his last 3 or 4 appearances just as he's starting to get more minutes.

Hopefully he's getting settled in u23 football now, has a good season and see where he is development wise next summer.

...goalscorers have a picture of the goal and where the goalkeeper is in their mind. It’s why they finish just inside the post so often. I get the impression DCL concentrates on connecting, with a shot or header. As you say, it’s a different mindset.

....the reality check is, he only about 12 months younger than Moise Kean. Last season, Kean broke into the Juventus team and became a full international for Italy.

Very good first half. Was impressed by Foulds, who I think had an injury (?), but did really well at left back. Astley was a bit wobbly but excellent experience for him as he is only young. Same with Simms, who is getting a bit bullied by their old pro at centre back. In midfield Markelo and Adeniran are impressive too. Hopefully Charsley and Evans are doing enough in this competition to showcase the reason for a January move.
