Despite this Warner Bros and DC retained them for the upcoming Flash film as it was deemed to late and costly to replace them with the film in post production

Henry Cavill is a British actor who played Superman in Man of Steel and the other connected films but has recently been dropped for Director James Gunn’s upcoming slate of projects in favour of a new take of the character

Gina Carano is a former MMA fighter turned actress who played Cara Dune in the Star Wars spin off series The Mandalorian but was fired from the role after the second season for her controversial opinions on social media

The studio was tempted to can the whole film, you have to consider that the costs do not stop with the making of it, distribution and marketing costs can often match the budget of the production. It's a risk for them as his public image could turn people away from seeing it OR does it make people want to go? They have hedged their bets on the latter.
