F1 - 2022 Season

It would have been a good race if Leclerc didn't blow up. Unfortunately for us the field spread is massive. Ferrari & Red Bull are 1 second faster than Mercedes, so if one of them folds like Ferrari did today then it's an easy run to the flag for the other one.

Personally I'm not a particular fan of Baku. The straight is SO long that there is no real skill in overtaking cars here.
It’s only really interesting because you know someone could bin it into the wall at any moment and that isn’t really why you want a race to be interesting given it could have horrible outcomes.

Really? I mean, what did he have to do other than keep the car out of the wall?

Perez will never be given the opportunity to challenge Max no matter what Karen says.
Won without shining is what I meant with that. Perez was not faster than him today.

The Merc is purposing all over the place.
Just bin this season and this car and focus on next year.

I'm surprised they haven't gone back to the sidepod version of the car that started the first test in Barcelona. It's okay to give yourself some time to resolve the issues but you would have thought they'd have fixed it by now if they were going to.

Is George Russell the driver of the season so far?
Realistically, can anyone have got any more out of the package he has at his disposal? Sitting on 99 points in the championship, IF Mercedes sort out their car it is not impossible for him to ne propelled into the WDC fight, as evidently Ferrari don't have the bottle for it.

He’s doing brilliantly so far. I wonder if age is a factor in this. Maybe Lewis being 13 years older means his body can’t take the beating as well as Russell can? The way he hobbled out the car at the end looked grim. Either way you have to respect what Russell is doing in a clearly poor car. As he said in interviews, you just have to stay in there and you don’t know what might happen.

I like Perez, but he is rarely faster than Max; that's not a secret. He's the best team mate that Max has had though, possibly even including Ricciardo. He compliments Max very well; he brings the car home, is able to execute alternative strategies to put other teams' drivers under pressure, and is now performing at a level where he's right there behind Verstappen to back it up.

But let's not be in any doubt who the clear #1 is at Red Bull. Max has had had to put in a few really good drives this year to earn the win, but today was very straightforward for him.

Unfortunately for neutrals and Karen haters alike, it looks like this year is going to be a cakewalk for Verstappen.

I think he's helped by the fact he's had 2 (or 3?) seasons driving around in an utterly turd car and doing better than should be expected.

Not lessening Hamiltons success over the years, but he's had a package that's always up at the front and he's not had to worry too much beyond his fastest rivals.

He hasn't scrapped In traffic against comparable cars for what, 8 years?

Great lap by LeClerc

I think there's definitely something about adaptability that goes away as you get older. The game changes, and all of a sudden you find that you are not quite able to get on top of it as you could have done easily 10 years ago.

I do think that Hamilton has been a bit unlucky with strategy calls this year in the races, but he has not been at Russell's level for whatever reasons and that generally puts him on the back foot and compounds his problems throughout the weekend.
