if Delph has been told he can go he'll be looking for another payday i'd imagine. He doesn't strike me as the type of player that'll put pride before profit. He'll want the best deal possible and if he doesn't get that he'll quite happily sit on our bench or more likely treatment room table and watch his bank balance grow. Awful signing. Sold to us as this leader of men based on a dressing room speech where he simply repeated what Pep said. Any medals he has he's received are thanks to the hard work and talent of his team mates. not down to him.
It is hard to know what to make of him for sure.
He wasn't a key part of the City team but he did play enough of a role to be considered a valuable squad player.
If he had nothing to contribute I cannot imagine somebody like Pep keeping him around because he liked him. He was there for some time and got games throughout.
I think that if he had been fit he would certainly have been welcome in our midfield... certainly since the restart.
I think City could afford to leave him out and bring him in as it suited and they were able to manage his fitness that way. We don't have that luxury, if he was fit we needed him playing.
I think the City team is full of leaders and Delph was part of an overall set up where losing was not an option, he was just part of it, he wasn't responsible for it.
If we were to sign at least one midfielder, if Gbamin could ever get fit and we had options then Delph would be acceptable cover. He could be used when fit to rest players who need a break and he could be given time to recover which might keep him fit more than he was last season.
In short, could be a useful squad player if we have to keep him but if there is interest in him... then sell.
