you're cutting this fine...2024 may well be the year I finally fall out of love with football forever.
If you have a moment, for digression, I follow my city's ice hockey team which compares somewhat neatly with Everton. Namely, Plzen is a working class city, the fourth largest in the country, manufacturing history becoming a thing of the past. Our fan base is blue collar, travel in large numbers, drink to excess and genuinely confuse, scare and annoy other fanbases because of the inebriated sense of entitlement, self righteous fury and head patting we dish out.
Currently 11th in a 14 team league. Sixth largest attendance, largely because of a run down stadium and never far from financial crisis.
There are moments when our fans vitriolic hatred of opponents, own players, managers, referees, other team's fans and mascots can be a soul sapping experience of embarrassment. Then, moments when they don't go far enough in giving vent to your own sense of injustice and fury. Moments of sublime alignment, when you give voice to the collective.
I hate our fans, much as @chicoazul hates his own, because we are them and they are us. What is life without self abasement, howling at forces unseen, events that you can't influence all that anger, loathing and solidarity - but come on, at least we're not the RS.
