Fernandes: Whats a fair price?

Seems there is a general consensus that we should sign Manny permently! Judging on yesterdays performence one of the most pleasing aspect was the great balance we had in central midfield. Intrestingly we were linked with Joey barton this morning,.

So with the right sounds coming form the player, manager and fans. How much should we go to sign him permently consdering his ability and age and how well he has integrated in to our style of play.

How much do people think he is worth and at what point should we walk away?

Would you be happy to sign him permently if it meant that it would be the only squad addition in the summer? (Missing out on Nugent et al)


Personaly i would go as far as 9 million before walking away.

Well £10 million was the figure reported and I'd be happy to pay that for a player of his ability and age. As I've said before, I don't expect us to sign many players this summer. Howard is here already, we've signed the guy from Swindon and probably Jones from Crewe. Nugent is probably dependant on what happens with Beattie. I think we need a wide player most of all though, especially if VDM is consigned to the rubbish heap.

I'm sure there will and Moyes does like to sign a couple of good players each summer, I'm just thinking that Howard is one, Fernandes another. Those two will cost a fair bit. If we pick up Jones from Crewe plus the kid from Swindon then that's two young players added to the squad. Much then will depend on who leaves I suspect.

If Beattie is sold for a reasonable sum then Nugent may replace him. If VDM is shown the door then we seriously need wide midfield players. Will Da Silva stay? Maybe Moyes will be able to bring in a couple of loan signings again.

With European qualification of course we'd have the extra PL prize money, a bit extra cash from European football plus the grandeur to hopefully attract a few new players so who knows.

10 million seems like lots of money. for us that is a massive gamble. wide players... how about routledge or swp? or downing from boro?

mercy.. we could be spending as much as 20 million this summer!!

High praise RJ certainly has the potential I dont think its that straight forward though personally im with you and we should snap him up! I wonder though will Moyes the bord be thinking 1 Manny = a nudgnet and a Barton!

His play was analysed on Match of the day last night, his through balls were sublime, on ball skills thrilled everyone. He was a little slow to get back on a couple of occasions but I'll forgive him that. My main concern about signing him is the bagage that comes with him, his signature is like hiring a slave, he has little say in his own fate unfortunately. As to a value, based on what we paid for AJ, perhaps 7/8 million. If he stood a chance of being sold on with little interference from third parties then may be 10 million would be realistic. However as we would only get something like half the purchase price back at sale because a company owns him gets the lions share of all transactions, thats how they make their money, this makes him a potential loss leader. With scant resources we have to be extra careful and the paper work surrounding any deal will have to be transparent to all concerned.

Its a pity that business interests overrule sporting ones but with sums like this involved you've got to be realistic.

depends on the clauses, if santa says payments are based on appearances for everton and portugals full international side, then there are ways of spreading the cost over time. that said the company that co-owns him could be a spanner in the works, potentially touting him around numerous other slightly higher profile clubs so as to maximise their profits.

i'd say 9mill give or take, with a few contract conditions. (appearances, european qualifications, international appearances, sell on fee)

I have to go 10 million myself to good to pass up and pinch pennies. Sometimes you have to spend to get good value. Seems strange now but it won't in the future. Remember AJ being to expensive for some. Lets gather some of there insight after that predator goal yesterday. Good value I say.

Let's not forget that West Ham are in deep doo doo because they broke the rules and signed a player half owned by someone else, so basically if we sign Fernandes we will be sole owners of him.

Do people think/kknow a deal or a fee has already been agreed? Moyes comments of i dont take players on loan i dont consider signing would suggest it.

Also this is more our style judging our other loan signings! Surely the club wouldnt enter in to an agreement if they knew the cash wasnt going to be there?

Fan pressure can be very persuasive. Although we stalled on Arteta for long enough, imagine with what we know now if that would have [Poor language removed] up.

I'd love to see him here but not at a stupid price.
