I can see your point, but for me it's more a case of short-term pain for long-term gain.
Fielding a weakened team and/or wanting Everton to go out of the cup early.

Fixture list if we get through this round:
4th round game: 3 games in 8 days, then a week off
5th round game: 4 games in 13 days/3 in 8, then a week off
We need a win asap to arrest the slump in form we are in. Next 2 league fixtures are Villa then Fulham away, by no means a gimme. After that we have Spurs and City. If we don't win tonight it is quite possible we could go 8/9 games without a win or even a draw. Winning breeds confidence, and that is much harder to build than to break. The fixture congestion that would be caused is nothing compared to the good that winning tonight's game would do.

I'm of the ethos you play to win every competition no matter how slim a chance. Every game is there to be won, we're Everton and we should have the arrogance to believe we can beat any team and go as far as we can in any competition. Deluded as most RS fans are, their club and all associated believe they can win even when they were worse than us like 10years ago. We need to get that winning mentality back and you only do that by progressing in competitions and believing you can do anything.

I'm all for ducking out of the Carabao Cup at the first opportunity – it is a terrible competition that needs binning asap – but the FA Cup is a trophy actually worth playing the best team available for.
