FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Eugene Ravdin

Player Valuation: £25k
FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group stage draw took place yesterday.

Group A: Palmeiras (BRA), Porto (POR), Al Ahly (EGY), Inter Miami (USA)
Group B: Paris Saint-Germain (FRA), Atlético (ESP), Botafogo (BRA), Seattle Sounders (USA)
Group C: Bayern (GER), Auckland City (NZL), Boca Juniors (ARG), Benfica (POR)
Group D: Flamengo (BRA), Espérance (TUN), Chelsea (ENG), Club León (MEX)
Group E: River Plate (ARG), Urawa Red Diamonds (JPN), Monterrey (MEX), Inter (ITA)
Group F: Fluminense (BRA), Borussia Dortmund (GER), Ulsan (KOR), Mamelodi Sundowns (RSA)
Group G: Manchester City (ENG), Wydad (MAR), Al Ain (UAE), Juventus (ITA)
Group H: Real Madrid (ESP), Al Hilal (KSA), Pachuca (MEX), Salzburg (AUT)

I still think this is a useless competition that will only further burden the international football calendar. But with the ties now on the table, I have to say that I'd love to watch games like Bayern vs Boca Juniors or Atlético vs Botafogo. The competition will take place next summer in the USA.

Does this seem exciting to you? Or is this just a stupid FIFA's idea to get some revenue regardless of what the clubs and the fans want?

I think it's embarrassing.

It's a joke.
A joke with real consequences for the game people love. FA Cup replays? Gone, even in the first round. Extra time? Less of that please, they play too much football as it is. Oh by the way, have you heard about our new 63 game tournament that people have definitely asked for and will definitely enjoy?

File it with the expanded Champions League in a folder marked 'death of football'.

would be really good if the competition would end up competitive, unfortunately Europe is so far ahead that I'd imagine they walk out of the groups and eventually all semi finalists will be form europe

I get why FIFA and the non-European leagues want it - they want a comparable lump of money to what UEFA and euro clubs generate through the Champions League / TV etc.
All it will do is breed inequality in more domestic leagues and you’ll end up with the same teams every time. The European clubs will still have a financial advantage and probably dominate this too.

Football is eating itself.

I haven’t watched a single champions league game this season. I can’t see myself wanting to watch the club World Cup either.

I actually think it's a good idea in principle. I think it will especially help clubs from the other confederations get more competitive. But it's too much football definitely. If they're going to do this they should reduce fixtures elsewhere in the calendar

Also they could've made the whole thing more credible by not allowing Inter Miami to compete because they do not deserve a place and have clearly been shoehorned in because of Messi.

But that means that fans of teams like Everton have less games and less revenue whilst teams like City get even more. Not for me.

I don’t see what the problem is ? Seems like pointless moaning to me, much like those against nation league.

Better than pre season friendlies in terms of entrainment and if anything it will contribute to tiring out the top teams players more , which ultimately benefits teams like us.

Plus it’s good for the non European clubs fans.

Who qualifies for this and how?

I thought it was the winners of the European runners up league, versus the equivalent from other continents but it seems there's a fair number of European teams there.

I'm guessing tv money amd advertising is behind bigging it up/diluting the gravitas, as per.
