Financial Fair Play investigation

What's the betting we get pulled in to the HMRC investigation in to agents working both for an incoming player & the buying club in a way to avoid tax?

I don’t think this is much to worry about. It sounds like it’s currently common practice and something most/all clubs do.

HMRC smell a chance to grab some extra money, though with it being common practice I would think it might just lead to the laws being tightened (again).

Different League but for those who are interested, while the correct call was made in the end, the process was error strewn.
Let me guess...it points to Everton getting a draconian punishment?

Ha ha ha.

You and a few others on here - for whatever reason - will paint a picture of doom and gloom.

The burden of proof is on (a probably unwilling) PL to prove their case against Everton.

That's where we stand. Let them cut their nose off to spite their face if they want, but I dont think they will.

No it's more about how the process can work for those who are interested..

My two takeaways from that are that the decision or determination isn't necessarily binding the day after the accounts are received and that the word of a clubs auditors isn't the final one.

We're not going to get a points deduction this season - nor are we going to get a transfer ban imposed before this summer's window opens (investigations take far too long for that to happen). The reality is the Premier League clubs are up to their oxters in dodgy dealings - just look at Abramovich's latest wheeze - and trying to pin something significant on us will open a Pandora's box.

There's lots of politics going on at the moment, but our focus must be purely on survival now and getting essential business done in the first weeks of the window. All this charge does is shine a light on just how incompetent our board has been.

You can sniff them a country mile away.

They're all over this thread in particular.

I understand that their own team's season has fallen apart in laughable fashion and they want to find joy elsewhere, but you have to have a lighter touch than this lot are displaying to remain incognito.

If relegated there would still be the small matter of complying with EFL FFP too and demonstrating how this will be done.

1) Income down £50-60m maybe. Parachute v regular PL cash?
2) FFP gap falls by £22m...because while to 2023 it's £105m £35m x 4/3 or £35m x 3 for the Championship it would be £35m + £35m + £13m.

What could be lost in the Championship season would be very much contingent on what was lost in 2021-22 and 2022-23...do Everton players have relegation clauses etc?

Stay down a further year and the headroom shrinks again...£35m + £13m + £13m and Parachute Payments I think are down by £10m in Year 2 so that's another £32m swing/squeeze.

Oh right, sorry. I thought in might be in line with your other helpful posts trying to scare the bejaysus out of Evertonians concentrating on a relegation fight this season and attempting to keep a level head about what may or probably may not come next season.
No actually for those who are interested l posted others.

I don't believe anything would be decided between now and the end of the season.

Fully agree. There are many clubs who need proper investigation and or referral. As well as Chelsea I'd like to see Fulham and Nottingham Forest. I'm unconvinced that they complied to 2022 with FFP in the year of their promotion.

Leicester to 2023 or 2024 could also be one to watch.

Are we sure that Bournemouth were within limits to 2022?

Crystal Palace and Southampton even have been making some big losses in recent years.

Depends on the precise nature of the rules but can some sort of soft embargo be imposed at times of charge? In theory yes.

Perhaps and maybe that's why the spending was permitted to the levels in thst season- new owners would have had meetings with the Football League at the time of takeover. Tighter restrictions would have been likely had new owners in summer 2018 said "FFP? We're not bothered about that".

All the same a counter factual in which there was no Fixed Asset loophole would probably have seen Aston Villa miss promotion. A heap of trouble well who knows but the loophole shouldn't ever have been opened in the 1st place.

The hole minus the Stadium sale would have been around £30m. The wage bill rose as did rhe Amortisation but may still have left £15-20m to find to 2019.
There would be absolutely no reason for Villa's owners to agree on any restriction with the league when they acquired the club. They bought the club and they knew the rules the club needed to operate under. I love the use of a 'counter factual'. But to use other counter factuals, if the owners didn't have any money the club would have gone into administration or if Villa got a 100 point deduction because a lot of the fans are idiots they would have been relegated.

There's a particular whiff from those trying to set the scene where we are guilty and should be punished.

Surely at this moment we are presumed innocent and we should be vigorously defending ourselves against those who would suggest otherwise.

The only outcome I want to see is a complete exoneration from any wrongdoing. Or maybe 10 lashes from cat o' nine tails for each of the board.
