depends on what we are trying to do. arteta wont play every league game + league cup + uefa + fa cup.

some games will require players that like a fight - cahill, victor, carsley, silva, neville.

some games we will be able to 'out finesse' the opposition - pienaar, osman, arteta, mcfadden, vdm, fernandes (possibly).

a few more players will allow moyes to switch things around and rotate the squad, injuries and bookings will always be a factor - also add in that when a game isnt going to plan, having a (dare i say) plan 'B' solution with personnel on the bench can help turn games.

I'm aware of all that. The heart of the question is more along the lines of managing ego's and finding enought playing time for players. For instance, Cahill. He just made a big committment to the club but if we break our transfer record on Yak and sign Fernandes where does he fit in.

At some level players will know if they are first team or squad and then you have to manage their expectations.

So I can see Arteta going to the left side. Can Fernandes go to the right? can Cahill?

............howard
neville yobo lescott baines
arteta cahill fernandes pienaar
..............yakubu
..............johnson

having such pace in defence means playing higher up the pitch, and so long as neville and baines get some quality crosses into the box, we will definatley score goals. depends on the opposition really, some teams we could just cannon through, but others we would need to pay more respect too.

Don't forget Osman as the form he's in he is probably worth a place. As I've mentioned before I see the side having two battlers in the middle with attacking players on the flanks.

From what I saw last season Fernandes isn't a battler so would go wide right, Arteta wide left with Carsley and Jagielka in the middle against the better sides and perhaps Cahill against poorer sides.

A few years ago we almost didn't have players to choose from that were good enough in the PL.. Now we are sitting here and discussing how to best use our players and which good players would be forced to sit out a game.

GOSH! I LOVE THIS CHANGE!! (y)

And a large proportion down to the stability of Moyes and Kenwright.

We should remember that when Reading [Poor language removed] us 3-0 on Saturday.

Assuming we get Yakubu and Fernandes, assuming everyone fit and healthy, and most importantly, everyone on CURRENT form

Howard

Neville, Yobo, Stubbs, Lescott

Arteta, Osman, Carsley, Fernandes

Yakubu, AJ

Subs: Turner, Cahill, Baines, Jags, Vaughan

Left off: Hibbert, Da Silva, VDM, McFadden, Anichebe, Valente, Pienaar

Tough call between Valente & Baines and Jags & Pienaar. I wish the Premier League would go with 7 subs on bench vs. 5.

Either way, if Yakubu and Fernandes come to Everton, we've got one hell of a squad with some needed depth, good battles for places, and good replacements when the inevitiable injuries hit.

If I've left anyone off (which I'm sure I have, let me know)

I've heard a lot of Sheff Utd fans saying jag is terrible at midfield, sound similar to neville. Let's hope we're not paying more for someone who is worst than carsley.
