First xi against Tottenham XI who is better?

Lol, I thought Liverpool fans were deluded, but you guys seem to take it to a whole different level.

No offence, but these kind of comparisons are usually rather pointless, with an obvious bias for your own players and lack of detailed information about the players from the opposing team. For example, it's quite clear that some of you haven't followed a lot of Spurs matches this season.

If you would've done that, you would have known that Parker barely played this season due to injury, so if anything Sandro should be compared to Gibson, not Parker. Or the fact that Walker has been absolutely horrible this season, so I'm rather surprised that a lot of Everton fans have him in their squad, it seems like some of you seem to rate him based upon last year's performances, but this year we see an entirely different Kyle Walker. I would say that Naughton is actually better than him, but thus far he has mostly played at left-back. Furthermore, and perhaps understandable because Vertonghen has played a lot at left-back for us, but he's a CB. Has played in that position a lot of the times as well for the Spurs. If you would compare him to Baines at left-back than Baines would win and you guys have another Everton player in the best-11. But if he's rated as a CB, than he'll surely be in there alongside Jagielka as the first-choice CB pairing.

Lloris
Coleman-Jagielka-Vertonghen-Baines
Sandro-Dembele
Lennon-Fellaini-Bale
Jelavic/Defoe

This is how I would rate the best combined 11, but as I said, it depends on how you view certain players and in which position they play and if they actually played a lot this season or have been out injured, Kaboul has barely played for example, but is someone who could potentiall be in that first-11, Parker perhaps the same. Lloris has been outstanding for us, a real sweeper-GK, he spots a potential dangerous situation and prevents it from happening, much better than Friedel, who brought a lot of confidence with his experience, but his reflexes where really diminishing at his age. Sandro and Dembele have been outstanding for us, Parker was player of the season for us last year, but we didn't even miss him much because we had the Sandro-Dembele combination. Pienaar is a good player, but Bale is better. I do rate Mirallas, but Lennon really has flourished under AVB this season. Jelavic-Defoe is a difficult one, Defoe is really having a great season, but at the end of the day his overall contribution to the game (apart from scoring) is very limited. Baines and Fellaini should obviously be included. Jagielka deserves a mention as well. I don't paticularly rate Coleman, but Walker has been awful and Naughton mainly used on the left.

LOL, I had 4 spurs players in my team, you have 6 1/2, and I had fewer spurs players than most of the posters on here (i don't like your club.)

I rate Walker based on the performances I've seen, which were mostly last year. Sorry we don't all follow your club as closely as you do.

Question though, what are your thoughts on Dempsey? Do you view him as a squad player?

Anyway back on topic. Sorry Andrew.

Everton are boss, Spurs are decent but i don't like them. Bale's overrated and Gibson is better than Parker and Vertonghen is a centre back and not a left back.

Well, it really depends on how you rate players and in which position you think they play. I think Pienaar plays on the left-wing, and that Bale is better, so no Pienaar, but you've gone around that by putting Pienaar in central midfield alongside Dembele. Same with Vertonghen, if you would rate him as a CB he would/should be in there, but if you're rating him as a LB (which he isn't btw), than Baines obviously wins.

That's quite alright, I myself certainly don't watch every Everton game for the full 90 minutes, it's just that this is the reason why I think these threads are pointless. Not just here on an Everton forum, but also on a Spurs one.

Question though, what are your thoughts on Dempsey? Do you view him as a squad player?

Dempsey is a squad player that brings depth in multiple positions: attacking mid, left-wing, striker. Not sure about him being starting-11 material though when everyone is fit. He started the season with some truly awful performances, perhaps the worst performances of a player in a Spurs shirt at White Hart Lane since Bentley and Jenas where still getting regular game-time. He has improved recently though and actually had a few man-of-the-match performances. I think we'll sell him in the summer or the year after that. He was a stop-gap until we could find someone better. It seemed like we would sign Moutinho in the summer, when that deal fell through, we bought Dempsey as a panic-buy on deadline day. Right now I think he might be used as a striker for a while, with Adebayor at the Africa Cup.

Which is where he should be playing, either that or behind Defoe.

He's wasted on the wing, scores loads of goals when deployed further up.

At Fulham he did play in some sort of left-midfield/wing kind of role, but he usually drifted into central midfield/central attack from that position. As a real winger he's not of much use of course, lacks the speed for that. I personally think his best position is in a 4-4-2 as one of the strikers, as the lone-striker without a partner upfront I think he's less useful though. Ideally I would use him as an impact sub though. I hope Sigurdsson can improve his game, he's a number 10 and we need that extra player in midfield, I really dislike a 4-4-2, especially the Defoe/Adebayor combination just isn't working.

Lloris

Walker Jagielka Vertonghen Baines

Mirallas Sandro Dembele Bale

Fellaini

Jelavic

Not too sure about Defoe/Jelavic though. Doesn't really matter if Walker has had a few bad months, it doesn't make him a bad player. He's still young.
