Been ill all night - first post of the day I Pm the author of this great book - he told me to post my sentiments on this thread -
What a great book it was it took me an age to read it as on the personal family side its been a bit traumatic, Congratulations on a fantastic read what can I say it was so varied players I just about remembered, or ones they believe it or not were the most fascinating! I had to telephone my brother about as he started watching the blues in 1958!
the preface from my all time hero said it all about you and your work could not find anything wrong it was just perfect from the heart of one true evertonians to many old and young -
I noticed how praised Bobby Collins got - { my late father and older brother raved about him when I was in short trousers never seen him just missed out on him as he was sold too quickly like Bally}
I have seen the glory years not well now the GOT keeps me going;)
I hope volume 2 is out soon do not rush it - you have set a high bar of standard well done again
many regards
Joey 66;)

There will be some players that wont appeal to some readers but in my eyes they represented our club and they all lived my dream.
Is right mate, read mine from A to W all in one sitting ( not like that fair weather dilatante @TheEsk)
*goes off to count tins in cupboard and check all facing front and gaps between are a constant 33/64's of an inch.

A constant theme seemed to follow Billy Bingham through the book

I was quite surprised when I read about that. I had always thought he was well liked.

Yes his brand of football was criticised by the press for the brand of football that season ultra defensive, boring to watch then the demise at were we trough it away at the end of that season!
Also individual players stated bitterly he preferred the Irish players - I spoke to my Oder brother over this, and he said it was a shock as in the 1963 winning championship team he was a great team member in a mixed side of Scottish / Welsh , and English players!

On a personal level I had a lot of time for Bingham after visiting Bellfield as a kid and he being incredibly friendly and hospitable to me and my brother and getting us the teams autographs.

We also went to see the RS train (my brother supported them) and the hospitality we received was not a patch on that we received from Everton and Bingham
