Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
18th January 2025

With Calvert-Lewin now enjoying life in Saudi, Alberto Moleiro was ready to make his Everton debut on the left wing with support from Arana on the left. Godfrey came in the side as Tarkowski was recovering from injury. Everton knocked the ball around nicely, Garner played it out to Arana and he passed into the box for Moleiro to try to nab his first goal but Sa tipped it away. Garner picked up ther ball on the edge of the Everton box after the Wolves corner and ran forward getting down the left, he dribbled to the line and crossed in for the running Beto to head in! Beto put Everton ahead on 10 minutes! Four minutes later Arana took the throw in the Wolves half, Garner with a pass to Palmer who knocked it back for Garner to cross and Okoronkwo climbed above Otto to head in his first Everton goal! He was delighted with that as he ran over to the familty enclosure! Everton looking good. Just after half an hour, Okoronkwo went down after a challenge with Otto and couldn't carry on, he was replaced by Roony. Hopefully it's nothing too serious as he is really enjoying his football. The second half started and Wolves came close through Cunha and Kalajdzic but Pickford made a great save ten minutes into the second half. Maffeo played it forward to Roony who used his pace to get down the right, he cut itto the area and had Beto in support but he tried the shot to Beto's frustration. Everton made a change with ten minutes to go, Arana went off for Mykolenko and Rodriguez came on for Palmer. It's been a better afternoon for Everton after the 6-1 humilation the week before. James Garner had a great game driving the ball forward into the final third and was head and shoulders above the Wolves midfield today.

DF: Garner was outstanding today and covered a lot of distance. His passing was brilliant as well and got himself two assists. Moleiro had a solid debut and fitted in well. The plan was to get on the front foot as soon as we could and Wolves retreated due to the midfield and full backs pushing on. I was pleased with how we got back into position as well when we lost the ball.

Struggling in The Championship, Peterborough had a chance to give their supporters some cheer as Everton came to town. Duncan Ferguson made a few changes for the trip with Dobbin and Konate included in the side. Onana was back from injury and came into the team with the return of Gueye also and Cole Palmer. McNeil started on the left side as he looked to regain form after a spell out of the side. Joao Virginia was given his first start of the season in goal. Everton's starting XI surprised the travelling supporters and many on social media as it was unsure as to why Pickford, Roony and Beto were not out there playing. Peterborough did start on the right foot and Everton had to be prepared for the long throw ability of Ngouyamsa who found Mothersille in the box and he got the cross in for Lemperle who headed over the bar. Everton started out from the back, Arana down the left to McNeil but he lost possession to Ngouyamsa who left McNeil in his shadow but Arana was there to win it back. 36 minutes gone and Peterborough's corner was headed clear by Godfrey, Palmer chased it down and kept it in on the right side, he ran forward getting the ball to Konate who played it to Dobbin and he got to the line to cross in, Ngouyamsa tried to clear but it bounced up and McNeil headed goal bound to make it 1-0! Everton came forward with Konate on 51 minutes but he lost the ball, Palmer was there to retrieve it and he came forward dribbling down the right, he cut it back for Konate but Dobbin took it off him and put the ball just over the bar, Konate wanted that one. It looked like there was a deflection so the referee gave the corner. McNeil couldn't beat the first man so it was headed back out to him, he took it down well and dribbled forward on ther byline cutting it back to Konate who had three players around him but his low shot found the net, 2-0! 2nd of the season for Konate! A few minutes later Everton had another corner which again was cleared, Palmer passed forward to McNeil and he put it low into the six yard box and Konate got his second in the space of a few minutes! After checking the replay, it was an own goal by Brunt so that will not go to Konate. Onana played the ball forward to Konate who tried to knock it back but overhit it and Mothersille was away down the left, he played it forward to Tshimanagaand he lofted it past Virginia into the top right corner, 3-1. Everton made two changes, Onana went off for Onyango and Mykolenko came on for Arana. Moleiro came on for the last 20 minutes replacing McNeil who had a decent game. Ricky Jade-Jones was up for the fight and he kept the Peterborough corner alive as he kept it in and scored from a tight angle beating Virginia at the post, 3-2. Tarkowski done well to keep up with Mothersille and won the ball back in defence, he tried the knock back to Godfrey but Tshimanga was lurking and he intercepted and chipped it over Virginia, 3-3! The Peterborough fans are going wild! Here comes Rodriguez replacing Palmer for the last 10 minutes. Nobody could find the winner and it finished a draw. It's going to be a replay in around 10 days time at Goodison Park.

DF: For Peterborough to come back from 3-0 down took sheer grit and we allowed them back in the game, they fought for every ball and showed they wanted it more. As a result we have an additional fixture and need to be at our best when they come up.

TRANSFER UPDATE

With three days left in the window, Chelsea activated the recall from loan option for Cole Palmer. Mauricio Pochettino wanted to bolster his sides attacking chances for the remainder of the season as Chelsea look to solidify their Champions League ambitions.

Everton vs Fulham
28th January 2025

=Fulham result.png

James Tarkowski was rested for this midweek fixture as Jarrad Branthwaite came back into the team next to Ben Godfrey. James Rodriguez started in midfield next to Gueye and Onana. Everton controlled the game well and on 16 minutes Roony pulled away from his marker down the right taking a great pass from Maffeo, he put it into the box for Beto but it ran past him, Moleiro was there to knock it in at the far post! His first goal in an Everton shirt! Roony looked in the mood and he came down the right side using his pace, he went past Carlos Vinicius who dragged him down and acted like it was fair, the Evertonians in the Park End did not like that and Everton were awarded a free-kick. Rodriguez put the free-kick to the far post and Godfrey's header was tipped over by Leno. As the game went on Fulham got more comfortable in possession, Onana's sloppy pass in the centre of the park was cut out by Carlos Vinicius and Fulham built an attack bringing in Tete, he got into the box and was checked by Gueye as he went past, penalty given. It's a yellow card for Gueye and Fulham had the chance to level on 37 minutes. Tsygankov placed the ball down and took a few steps back, he sent Pickford the wrong way and made it 1-1. The game went on and Everton came close with Roony who was giving it his all. The changes came as the game was heading for a draw, Beto had one of his worst games of the season and was just not involved so he was replaced by Konate. Doucoure also came on for Onana. 12 minutes to go and it was heating up as Fulham pressed Everton and allowed them no space, the Everton players were struggling and Roony was the only one trying to put something together. 89 minutes gone and Godfrey started the move from the back, Doucoure passed to Rodriguez and he moved it to Moleiro, he found Konate inside the box and his first time shot went wide, he should have hit the target at least. That proved to be the last decent chance for Everton and it's only a point against an improving Fulham side.

DF: We do it to ourselves all the time, start on the right foot but allow teams to settle and adjust. The penalty decision was unfair but when there's contact there's not a lot you can do. Konate had the chance to win the game, I won't put pressure on him, he's young and will get chances. He was in the right place to take it on. I expect better at this stage of the season, coming towards the business end and we can't put teams away at home, it is a concern.

LEAGUE TABLE

A few days remained in the transfer window and an offer for Lo Celso from Spurs was accepted but personal terms could not be agreed. There are options at the club in the midfield position and Tyler Onyango has done well when called upon. It remains to be seen if an attacking midfielder will be signed or brought in on loan in the final few days of the window.

EVERTON SIGN REDONDO

DF: Frederico will be loaned back to Argentina Juniors for the rest of the season and will them join up with the squad for pre-season. He's still a young footballer getting game time in his home country and we will make it an easy transition over to us at the end of the season. For anyone who doesn't recognise the name, he's son of Fernando Redondo, who played for AC Milan and Real Madrid as well as being capped many times for his country.

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY

Jamie Vardy.webp

It was a last minute deal and one Thelwell and Ferguson were keen to get over the line with seconds to go. Jamie Vardy at the age of 38 has decided to finish his career playing for Everton in the Premier League. It's a bold move but one Ferguson is hopeful can pay off as his side look short on that killer instinct at times. Vardy was out of favour at Leicester but Ferguson knows what the talisman is capable of and will come in handy as an impact player for the rest of the season.
