Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

HT: Not the game many expected, Leeds look the better team and need to do better in front of goal but Everton are switched on at the back and doing a good job to keep Harrison and Sinisterra out so far. Gnonto playing as the Striker is having to come deep to get involved. Everton, with very little to be excited about are not seeing Moleiro and Gonzalez taking players on and getting the ball in behind for Beto. Some words to be said at Half-Time.

Everton came out of the blocks for the second half and the crowd reacted positively, spurring them forward, Rodriguez losing the ball saw Onana take it and drive forward but it was won back by Gray and Leeds stepped up, looking to pick Everton off, they came forward in numbers and Roca's pass into the box for Gnonto was a second too late as he was offside. He slotted past Pickford but the flag was raised. Everton got away with that.

90+2: Leeds kept the pressure on and Harrison sent in the corner from the right, Branthwaite headed but Roca got to it and passed back to Gnonto who had space on the edge of the box and on the bounce he smashed it goal bound through all the bodies in the box and smashing into the top left corner. What a goal to win it for Leeds. Everton allowed too much space and he had time to hit it beautifully. Everton 0-1 Leeds.

The final whistle came and it was Leeds United, the victors and winners of the League Cup 2026. Everton faltered before the game kicked off and one shot on target summed up their whole performance. Where were they? The team that fought so hard to get here but let it go in the closing minutes. A dejected team and a disappointed manager. It's one for Ferguson to learn from and come back stronger for. The trophy drought goes on. Where was Beto? Where was Gonzalez and Moleiro? Even James Rodriguez was hiding. Hang your heads in shame Everton.

Leeds United took full advantage of a vulnerable Everton side that had been a shadow of a good side for weeks. Ange Postecoglou's message was clear and he was bringing success back to Elland Road. Leeds looked like a team that are on the up, a team that play with pace and skill. Harrison and Sinisterra looking like those key players to drive the team forward and make things happen. Gnonto the one to put fear into defences and today he done it with a rifling shot that Pickford had no chance of. Leeds United, the class of 2026, winners of the League Cup.

Everton, a great start to the season, sitting in the top 7 on the cusp of getting back into Europe and going all the way to a cup final only to let it all slip away without a fight. It's back to the drawing board for Ferguson and Aspiazu. Big players not performing and standing up. Team Leaders going into hiding when it counts and the skill and fast football we became accustomed to, long forgotten. Ferguson needs to go back to basics and see who really wants it because that was not a performance of a team in a cup final. How many players can say they will be in another one? It's time to see this as a lesson and learn from it. The F.A Cup is still alive and they need to be spurred on from this embarrassment.
