There's an argument to be had then that it was very poor from Hamilton to allow such an inferior racer be ahead of him. Doing a better job in qualifying and staying on the track earlier in the race wouldn't have left him in that situation.

Staying on track would have put him in the same position that he was after he gave the positions back. He should have done better in quali but he got locked into a setup that wasn't ideal (although it turned out to be decent in race trim). These things happen.

Maybe but having to give back positions could arguably be losing you more overall time than holding that original position and not putting the car off track and neither of us know how the lap plays out if he waits for a different opportunity. I could of course be very wrong - it's all 'what if'.

Regardless I don't think it would have been a formality for him to get past Norris if the roles were reversed. Trying to overtake while also defending in that tight situation with Sainz giving DRS wasn't easy. It certainly wasn't a great moment for Russell but possibly not as bad as Hamilton's Azerbaijan restart - happens to the best of them.

In most races that would be the case however at Singapore, it's a tyre management festival and everyone is driving well below the limit meaning you can slack off for a lap or two, lose some time, and then easily gain it back if necessary. This happened constantly in the race numerous times with gaps fluctuating based on drivers slowing the pace for whatever reasons before speeding up again. They can only do this because they know Sainz is out front driving as slow as he possibly can in order to maintain first place. Ultimately Hamilton lost nothing from going wide at the start.

It is indeed all what if's though, nothing is guaranteed but the pace difference between Hamilton and Russell was sizeable, a 5-second lead cut down to 1.5 seconds whilst both were in clean air, Hamilton was faster and also able to keep his tyres in better condition. That's the way it goes though, like you said... should have qualified better.

Lawson was great tonight. Loved it when he made Verstappen really work hard for his overtake on him. He's been impressive so far. Does he just get chucked out again as soon as Ricciardo is back? Much rather see Lawson out there.

I'd assume so. He's outperformed Tsunoda so far though and I think Tsunoda's contract is up for renewal. If he does get moved aside now then the lasting impression is that Lawson is probably better than at least one of their current drivers.

Not a bad position to be in for a shout at a permanent seat next year. Especially if Tsunoda outperforms Riccardo for the rest of this season.

Tsunoda has done nothing in F1 to suggest he deserves a new contract imo

Get rid, replace with Lawson. Williams would do well to replace Sargeant with him.
