Hi All,

I've been away on holiday so excuse the delay in explanation behind the inaccessibility.

The reason for the downtime is quite simple, our server couldn't cope with the unprecedented level of traffic. To put it into perspective, the last 3 days of traffic collectively beat our highest ever month in 5+ years. GrandOldTeam tends to be the first place 'neutral' fans browse - so if there's a big transfer, you have fans of other Clubs coming on to see reaction.

There's little we can do to prevent it and quite simply, we couldn't afford to regularly sustain that kind of 'spike' traffic. It was completely unprecedented - not helped by other Everton forums being inaccessible.

So please stay patient

(Just speaking as a former web designer here) To put things into context, the traffic spikes this place gets is the equivalent of what a major supermarket website at the end of the month gets.

I've posted the mainsite stories of late and honestly the site goes down within 5 minutes of doing so on anything Mirallas because the surge from NewsNow, RSS and social media is quite obviously insane.

GOT isn't run by a company or even a solo millionaire, so unless someone wants to throw a few grand Dan's way or he plasters adverts left, right and centre I think we have to accept that when you get unprecedented levels of traffic like that the server is going to suffer a temporary DDoS death.
