I think it's a great idea. This would make more Premier games meaningful towards the end of the season, more teams would be jockeying for a 4-7 spot to get a shot at the Champions League.

As is pointed out above, this is no longer the Champions League. And is it really that ridiculous to see Fulham in there when Celtic are trotting out legends like Samaras and Lee Naylor for "Champions" league matches?
 
There's no way to determine that unless they actually joined up, which sadly, will never see the light of day, despite all the fancy talk.

It's been shown that anyone can beat anyone on the day in the Premier league, Burnley have beaten United, ourselves and other big names at turf moor, you never know what is going to happen.

and Rangers and Celtic have both reached European finals in the last seven years, Parkhead is a testing trip for any team in Europe, and a partizan crowd really gives them a 12th man, I do think they need to play ouitside of the SPL, It's just not going to happen any time soon thats all.
 
Shiote idea IMO.

So your teams from 4 to 7 play in a playoff to then play in another playoff to get into the Champions League? Or are they scrapping the idea of the 4th place finisher having to play a playoff to qualify for the Champs League proper? Uefa would have a say about that.

Smells like TV money being lost IMO. Man Shiteh are big money spenders on the block. I dont think having Shiteh in the Europa League is going to generate TV revenue that the media coverage for them in the Champions League would do. Uefa would want a media whore like Citeh in the Champs League...it fits their profile than being in the Europa League.

Then there's the fact the RS could not be in the Champs League again....again, Liverpool in the Europa League? Wouldnt that generate more coverage for the Europa League? Yes...but I dont think Uefa would like the Champs League shine being taken away somewhat, especially when I think they want rid of the European Cup altogether at some point.

And what a waste of time the league would be. You work that hard to get 4th and that could be taken away by teams below you who performed less than you did.

The only reason Uefa allowed 4 teams from 3 teams was down to the money made from having more teams from the most watched league in the world in it. So to give the RS and big money Citeh another chance to get into the Champs League if they fail to get into it when they've played all their matches will be lapped up by the FA so they can get the big TV and sponsorship money if they qualify.
 

personally i think it is an awful idea. You end up where you belong at the end of a season on merit. A team finishing as the 7th best team in the league should not, potentially, be in the champions league.
 

i can't believe that they are falling for this if uefa have suggested it, as if a team who finish 7th get through and then promptly get knocked out of c.l. then the countries coefficient will drop and before you know it uefa will take away the 4th qual. spot.

i.m.o. it's a plotini to reduce our number of teams.
