For the OP, I currently work for a franchisor in the States and have seen both successes and failures. Here's some advice:
First, I would think deeply about where your interest lies. In the first year or two, you can expect working well over 40 hours a week and I've seen many people take shortcuts or lose interest and lose their shirts. Then, I would conduct some research on opportunities in your field of interest. Fast-food places came up frequently in this thread and you'll want to assess your earnings potential, start-up costs, royalty rates, terms of the Franchise Agreement, etc. For example, Subway is somewhat notorious in the States for market saturation. Once you consider a specific opportunity, you will attend a seminar and, by law in the States, receive a Franchise Disclosure Document, which includes a sample FA, procedures, list of current/former Franchisees, etc. At this point, you should really be crunching the numbers in your business plan and contact former and current franchisees to see what their experiencehas been before signing the Franchise Agreement.
