Rom good signing, Martinez overall team ended up a disaster. The only 'point' worth taking from the bring-back-Bobby bridage is some people need to give their heads a seriously good wobble.
You have to ask yourself why?

Was his first season a fluke and he's shte or if he had real money akin to the fee paid for Rom would he have spent 18m on the 3 you mention? Remember it wasn't all bad McCarthy and Barry were good value and I feel the monies spunked by Mosh on ensuing managers and the Snides, Gomes, iceman types could have been better used by Roberto. But we'll never know all we do know is he managed Belgium to their highest ever tournament finish showing that with good players he's quite a decent manager

Martinez was , and is , an appaling manager , who cannot set up a team defensively , plays a slow possession based style , that would be ripped to pieces by a modern , high pressing team . He inherited a good side from Moyes , and had more money to spend than Moyes as well. Similarly , he inherited arguably the best national squad in the world and has done nothing with them. For me , the jury is still out on Frank , but I would still rather stick with him , than let this idiot come back.
He seemed like a decent human being, and made a couple of good signings as well as Rom: Barry and McCarthy played well for us for a couple of seasons and Gerry looked a good bet. But I couldn't take any more nonsense about how phenomenally we'd played when everyone had just witnessed 90 mins of unmitigated dross. Describing Aiden McGeady as 'world class' and Tom Cleverly as 'one of the best players of his generation' has got to raise questions about his grasp of reality. Agree if he was any good, Belgium should have won a trophy with that squad.

I wouldn't say it was a 'fluke' I think it was more the case of inheriting a well-drilled, well-organized Moyes side where everyone knew their job, added to a few attacking additions, plus Martinez's style. A short-term 'perfect storm' of sorts.

What's more telling for me is how it went once it became fully "his team": spiralling into the ground, so utterly devoid of confidence we were beaten before the kick offs towards the end of his time. A truly broken team. Even before that we could be 2 goals up with ten to go and you never once felt confident of a win.

As for the Belgium thing, they were/are one of the best teams in the world. Big Sam could probably do the same with that squad, albeit very differently.

Is it because of him or because of the players though? All I'll say when push came to shove he failed to set up in a correct manner to beat the opposition in front of them when he had the better team.

I'll give him he has always been better as a 'cup' manager though.

Turn it in. Surely this season was going to be like this. We finished 4th bottom last season and the result midweek was a flashback to how bad things could really be. You cant just ignore the profit/loss ffp either. We had to buy as many new players as we could throughout the team. You also cant ignore that we havent got a striker and lampard should be given funds to buy a centre forward and a wide striker in january. The gamble to rely on calvert lewin has backfired. Two transfer windows the manager has had half the team are new players and need time and we've got no striker. Most of this isnt down to lampard. It just doesnt change overnight. Mid table no matter how unpalateable to some is a big improvement on last season. UTFT.

I predict... lots of finger pointing and recriminations in this thread regardless of the result.

What would we all do if Lampard was getting results and we were at the right ebd of the table, eh?
We’d all be finger pointing at the lot that supported Benitez and have jumped at the chance to bitch about Lampard whenever he doesn’t get a result ?

I said at the start of these final five games after we lost 3 on the bounce I’d take 5-7 points and didn’t care about the league cup. A result today and personally my expectations have been met. Underwhelming but realistic with the squad we have.

Are you aware how stupid this statement is?

Lampard and Thelwell have had one summer window to bring in players. Then 14 league games with several freak injuries.

After inheriting a squad of mostly dross and fighting relegation.

Now you want to sack this same manager without giving his new players time to gel...

...to bring in ANOTHER MANAGER and give them money for new players.

I mean how absolutely stupid.
They signed 8 players?

We are here saying we need a winger and a striker.... well they signed one, they are just ?.

McNeil and Maupay are not fit for purpose and they are on Lampard... You can blame whoever you like but Lampard ultimately gave the nod to sign these two for over £30m!!!

He’s put all the cowards from midweek on the bench, so much for calling them out publicly.

No consequences for players not being arsed or giving a [Poor language removed] - they shouldn’t be near the squad ffs.

Furthermore despite adding all the players we have signed there is no sign of progression, we have the EXACT PPG and inconsistent results we have when we had all the deadwood many on here claim werent good enough despite finishing 10th under CA and nearly qualifying for Europe.

If all the players have changed what else is at play to keep getting consistently poor results???

Everyone beats Guardiola and Mourinho for being "buying" managers yet all everyone wants to do is throw players at Lampard in the hope it turns results around, well it wont if he isnt up to it!!!!
